Carolinian - Opinions Issue: 9/14/04 OUT OF MY HEAD: Everything to Live For '04 By Joe Killian I have friends who refused to watch, listen to or even read Bush's speech to the RNC last week -but I just had to see it. I was working that night, so I set my VCR and came home to the tape at around 1 a.m. It's hard to describe the mixture of nausea and fear that gripped me as I watched this speech. I was offended at the use of the tragedy of 9/11 as political leverage - but, in a strange...
  • How Kerry Became a Girlie-Man

September 5, 2004 FRANK RICH How Kerry Became a Girlie-Man ONLY in an election year ruled by fiction could a sissy who used Daddy's connections to escape Vietnam turn an actual war hero into a girlie-man. As we leave the scripted conventions behind us, that is the uber-scenario that has locked into place, brilliantly engineered by the president of the United States, with more than a little unwitting assistance from his opponent. It's a marvel, really. Even a $10,000 reward offered this year by Garry Trudeau couldn't smoke out a credible eyewitness to support George W. Bush's contention that he...

However, the consequences of such a significant troop withdrawal have a couple of downsides, too, most of all for the Germans. One mostly overlooked but important side effect is the departure of the US troops themselves. With their visible presence of African-Americans and immigrants from Asia and Latin America, they enriched the German shopping malls and restaurants, representing a multi-ethnic society. If they are gone, German society will lose a bit of color, so to speak. This step will play into the hands of right wing xenophobes whose aim is to purify the German nation. Here, by accident, the goal...

freerepublik The Freeper's Pathetic Attempts at Historic Revisionism Regarding Stalin's "Communism" and Hitler's National "Socialism" -By Chris P. Bacon- July 20th, 2001 It has long been a ploy of the right wing in America, especially with regards to our friends (National Socialists as fervent as Hitler ever was) over at freerepublic.com, to convince people that liberal programs such as welfare, gun control, or even public schools are forms of wicked fascism in the truest spirit of Hitler and the "Communists" of the eastern Bloc simply because, in the names of these political dead ends, they included the word socialism. This...
  • George Smith - Clarke Expose' (ZOT!!! Minor League Troll Sent Down from Majors)

I just got done reading the Village Voice piece on Clarke by George Smith. Smith, a faithful democrat, is being widely quoted as a Clarke detractor by those made uncomfortable by Clarke's book and testimony. The thing is, the criticism Smith made of Clarke was done over a year ago and was on the subject of cyberterrorism -- not the sort of terrorism that brought down the world trade buildings. Smith is a pundit on cybersecurity. His thoughts on Clarke are taken out of context in time and subject by those desperately seeking some means to rescue the Bush campaign's...

The other day I wrote about a formerly pro-Bush friend turned rabidly anti-Bush in mere months. Could she be part of a trend? So Eric Margolis writes in the Toronto Sun. And not that the polls count for much, but the latest look as if folks would like to take the pruning shears to Bush.'Course, you can't tell it by reading FreeRepublic.com, which (fallen far from its glory days as a vast townhall meeting protesting government abuses) has largely turned into a Bush cheerleading squad, specializing in fancy knee-jerks. But something's moving out there, under the surface. So watch for some...

Okay, so I thought that I could at least have civil debate with INTELLIGENT conservatives, but after posting under a different name, not only were the responses the equivellant of "UH-UH," but I was denied my rights as a citizen of this great country. It appears to me that Free Republic is not interested in FREE SPEECH! I do love the U.S., I just disagree with the jingoism that followed 9/11. I disagree with our leaders purposfully lying to their citizens in order to go to war. I disagree with going to war against the express directions of the UN which was made to council the nations on these issues. I disagree with the nation's presidency being stolen from the rightful owner, the man who truly won the election. I disagree with that stolen presidency being handed to a C average student who has a criminal record and went AWOL when he was supposed to be serving in the military. I disagree with corporations running the government in the new era of pay to play politics. I disagree with the same corporations that run the country, run the news media. I disagree with conservatives instead of listening to what a liberal has to say, they resort to attacking them with (sometimes) drastic immaturity. I disagree with using religion to get votes. I disagree with religion. I disagree with history being written by the victors. I disagree with with the USA PATRIOT Act not only because anyone can be detained for any reason for any amount of time without a trial with a jury of twelve peers. I disagree with the fact it is called the "Patriot Act" and yet there is nothing patriotic about it. I DO agree with the quote "If you are willing to sacrifice freedom for for security, you deserve neither." I disagree with the civilians in this country not standing up and calling for an impeachment for a president that has done far worse than getting a blow job in the oval office. He has LIED, CHEATED, AND MURDERED. I disagree with everyone being angry at Bill Clinton for smoking marijuana but no one criticizes George W. Bush for DRUNK DRIVING and COCAINE use. I disagree with George W. Bush saying in a nationally televised broadcast, "If you aren't with us, you're with the terrorists." This hurt the feelings of about 60% of New York citizens because they not only lost friends and family in the World Trade Center on 9/11, but they also opposed going to war with Iraq. You can imagine the deranged ultimatum this put on those poor Ameericans who had to choose between those who killed their friends and family and the their better judgment to wait for a UN resolution. I disagree with a $350 billion tax that goes directly to the 1% minority of the wealthy. I disagree with the "No Child Left Behind" policy. Standardized tests don't teach children anything but how to memorize test questions. As a teacher, I can only describe it as leaving every child behind. I disagree with arch conservatives on this website saying that I have AIDS because I am liberal and am into homosexual activites. To clear up your mislead statements of slander. I am heterosexual, I do not have AIDS. I have two healthy children that are beautiful and will be entering school in a year. I love my wife and my country. I don't agree with you...but that doesn't mean I hate you or your thoughts. I encourage them. But please stop reacting to someone that you disagree with in an angry passion of blind ignorance. It doesn't solve anything.

  • HOW SMART DOES THE CALIFORNIA GOP LEADERSHIP FEEL NOW?

Now that the GOP Leadership has put their total support behind the Pro Abortion, Pro Homosexual, Pro Gun Grabbing, Pro Illegal Immigrant Invasion Arnold. They must now contend with what is comming out of the closet. Lets see, assualting women, pro Nazi views. Arnold has already pled guilty in public to the women issues and now (NOW) comes his Pro Hitler Views. He says he admires what Hitler accomplished. Of course he's just talking about Hitler's talking. I wonder whats next. Steriod use during the making of his last flick? And after that? Now we all knew this was comming,...

So you think your government looks out for you? Not nearly as much as it does for aliens. On Sept. 24, Robert Pear reported in The New York Times that the Bush administration has quietly decided to stiff 6 million poor elderly and disabled Americans by denying them Medicare drug benefits. According to the Bush administration, these Americans are already covered under state Medicaid programs. President Bush should read the newspapers. On Sept. 23, Robert Pear reported in The New York Times that "rising costs prompt states to reduce Medicaid further." It seems that the jobless recovery has forced virtually...
