AMERICANS TURNING AGAINST BUSH?
WOLFESBLOG ^ | February 9, 2004 | Claire Wolfe

Posted on 02/09/2004 1:20:03 PM PST by Hank Kerchief

The other day I wrote about a formerly pro-Bush friend turned rabidly anti-Bush in mere months. Could she be part of a trend? So Eric Margolis writes in the Toronto Sun.

And not that the polls count for much, but the latest look as if folks would like to take the pruning shears to Bush.

'Course, you can't tell it by reading FreeRepublic.com, which (fallen far from its glory days as a vast townhall meeting protesting government abuses) has largely turned into a Bush cheerleading squad, specializing in fancy knee-jerks. But something's moving out there, under the surface.

So watch for some huge terrorist scare shortly before the elections to remind everybody to keep shuffling along behind the boss.

Interesting comment on FR, and Bush as well.

This is a media phenomenon, due to excessive coverage of the Dem primary. Nothing more, nothing less. The real campaign doesn't start until after March.

I think people turned on Bush after he announced his space invasion. We have too many problems here on Earth to be venturing into space. Just my opinion.

Didnt someone post a story about "Moby" calling for trolls to get into conservative sites to undermine confidence?

Claire must be one of those “Bush orchestrated 911” dingbats, like Michael Moore and Justin Raimondo.

Yeah, right....kinda like firing a few missiles into an aspirin factory, all in the name of "fighting the war on terror" on the exact same day which Monica Lewinsky was giving her testimony to the DC grand jury????........I think NOT!!!!!!!!

Here's all you need to know about polls at this time of year:

The Toronto Star, 5/19/88:

A CBS/New York Times poll released Monday said Dukakis leads Bush 49-39 per cent and would beat the vice-president in all regions of the country if the election were held now. A Lou Harris poll Sunday gave Dukakis a 50-43 per cent edge.

Interesting and stupid. 40% of the country will stay solid behind Bush, 40% can't wait to vote him out. It's the 10-20% in the middle taht will decide everything. It's just important that the Repubs not let that swing vote be polluted with the Dem/ Media nonsense. Americans need to remember taht just a few short weeks ago they trusted and respected the president. All that has changed is the political hype. Comments like look for a terrorist action for election purposes are nonsense.

Whoever wrote this article obviously: 1) is one of the anti-Bush crowd, 2) probably has an FR login and 3) hasn't visited here for a while and seen all the anti-Bush stuff.

Of course, there is always possibility #4: Moby put her up to it.

Well, it always happens that the feller at the top has a bunch of his constituents whose pet issues are getting short shrift. Clinton certainly did, and loyalty to Ze Party became an obsession on the left, or rather more so than usual.

Let's see, where do I start? Federal spending has the small-government types (me, for one) up in arms, his neo-bracero approach to immigration has that opposing faction ready to jump ship, his proactive Iraq policy has the isolationists miffed, etc, etc...but the bottom line is that unless the Dems offer an alternative more middle-of-the-road than any of their current front-runners, the bulk of us will hold our noses and vote for him in view of the undeniable fact that the alternative would be worse across the board. This year (at least so far) the most popular third parties are on the left. All that could change, but that's it in a nutshell at the moment.

Yep, the Dem primary is mostly what's driving this.
Filling up the cable channels and internet political sites with one party's views.

I find it fascinating and wonder when some "pundit" will pick up on it.

I am about as pro-Bush as anyone could be. However, if the Mars thing didn't turn me off, his new immigration policy certainly did. I see this as an admission that we cannot control our border with Mexico. If that is true, we are in very sad shape as a nation. We can go after terrorists around the world but we can't control our southern border? Something smells.

IMHO I think it's the borders and the whole undocumented worker/temporary visa/amnesty stuff.

People got particularly irritated when Bush announces his little amnesty plan in what is a blatant political ploy.... just as they did when his Father announces new taxes.

And by the way, dearie, my knee-jerking is nothing if not fancy!

It is sad to see that much of the Free Republic has turned into BushBots more concerned about political affiliations than what is right. These Bushbots dont care about important conservative issues, namely the massive growth of Federal spending, open border immigration policy, and the the first new governmetn entitlement in a generation. We will all be paying for these mistakes for the rest of our lives.

The author of this piece hasn't been reading FR. Plenty of dissent here. But even so...there isn't a whole lot of real choice for those of us who don't feel like subjecting our foreign policy to the whims of the French, Germans and U.N.: Kerryspeak isn't the desire of Americans.

This clown also refuses to see the obvious: the Democrat Party Operatives have been getting the bulk of coverage for 2 months now: the primaries have been the big story; meanwhile, the administration just keeps governing.

So Eric Margolis writes in the Toronto Sun.

Margolis is a flaming idiot, so it's rather silly to use him as a barometer of conservative sentiment.

We've all had issues with Bush, but there is simply no viable alternative this year. The true battle for the heart of the GOP will take place in 2006 and 2008.

LOL yeah it cracks me up when people start looking at polls 9 months before an election. People like to waste their time.
