Yeah! This was a brutal week. 33% of my office was out on paternity leave (okay, so there's only 3 of us). K, leave all seriousness aside and get silly. And if you blew it all on Wednesday, pffft! As Rita approached, all of East Texas boarded up in preperation. Here's a pic from College Station of the efforts... If you've been living in a cave in Afghanistan for the last week you may have missed this:

Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005 11:58 a.m. EDT Gov. Haley Barbour Urged to Blame Bush The media continues search for ways to pin the blame for Hurricane Katrina's devastation on President Bush, with television anchors now getting into the act. Appearing Thursday on CNN's "American Morning," Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour was aggressively grilled over whether the "federal government" [i.e., the Bush administration] "dropped the ball" on disaster preparation efforts. "We knew it was a strong storm developing for several days before it ever made landfall," AM host Miles O'Brien told Barbour, before asking: "Do you have the sense that the federal...

Just a quick question...I've noticed several articles on FR with the keyword "CARY." The articles seem to cover a very diverse range of topics. What does CARY mean? Is it an acronym? Curious.....

Many argue that communism will never be possible because of "human nature". The essence of this false argument is the belief that a communist society would consist of an all-powerful central government that would tell everybody what to do--and would therefore undermine the creative initiative of individuals and the search for happiness. • This argument is based on two false assumptions: (1) It assumes that a communist society will look like the former Soviet Union, or the current China, North Korea, etc (ie: corrupt police states with a feudal-style ruling class) (2) It assumes that people will only work in...

SEATTLE -- If Tim Schellhardt had one wish, it would be to eradicate the word "solution" from the technology industry, if not the entire English language. "Solution" used to be a fine word. If you had a problem, you needed a solution. But now, "It's used so much in the tech industry that it's lost its meaning," laments Schellhardt, the director of editorial services for the public relations firm Ketchum in New York. These days, high-tech companies don't release products, they provide solutions. And those products - er, solutions - don't just run a program or play a song. Instead,...

Alright, I'm not even sure how to go about posting this baby, especially considering the delicate nature of the subject matter. So, I'll attempt to tread as lightly as possible, without offending anyone's sensibilities and hopefully, without incurring the wrath of the omnipotent Admin Moderators. Earlier today, I was listening Rush's program, when I heard him read an item about Eve Ensler's most recent effort to energize the supposedly disenfranchised women's vote. She hopes to do this by staging yet another "V Day" celebration, on this occasion, one specifically tailored to increase voter turnout among single, urban, putatively liberal woman...

The purpose of FreeRepublic.com's multiple message boards is to limit the topics for each board to particular topics. Posting the same message on all the boards defeats the purpose of multiple-boards for special topics. It is very annoying to see the same message on every bulletin board. PLEASE! DO THE READERS A FAVOR. STOP CROSS-POSTING YOUR MESSAGES!

Hi! My name is John Martineu. Im 18 and a student of Dover high School in Dover Delaware. I have been assigned a final term project. We are to do a 20 page turn paper on different subjects. I am doing one on the collapse of communism. Since you coservatives know alot about this, I was wondering if you could help me out. First Id like to know what communism is and how it is different from socialism? Second I would also like to know about why Russia collapsed. Third could you tell me why you refer to certain people...

I was just wondering if any of you have any suggestions for how to make Free Republic easier to use and a better place in general. This is NOT a criticism of Jim Robinson and I am most appreciative of all his hard work. This site is great and I enjoy coming here to learn about and discuss the conservative issues of the day. This is just my desire to see this site become more "viewer-friendly" than it is in its present iteration. I've had thoughts over the years about this and these are the ones that I keep coming...

Keywords. You've seen them. You love them. Maybe you have even abused them.

Please don't abuse keywords. There are children in China doing without keywords.

1) Having who added what keyword be revealed at the whim of sadistic moderators, such as myself.
