State Dept. Releases Readout of 'Kerry Calls,' Datelined 'Washington, DC' Daniel Halper July 6, 2013 6:14 PM Secretary of State John Kerry has received some criticism for going yachting as the Egyptian leader was going overthrown. But the State Department, which first insisted that Kerry wasn't even on his boat, is now insisting that the secretary of state has been working hard -- and they've just now released a readout of "Kerry Calls," with a "Washington, DC" dateline. "Over the days since the unrest in Egypt intensified, Secretary Kerry has been in constant contact with the national security team, regional...

Reuters: 'Terrible Optics' for Obama to Go Golfing and Kerry Yachting During Egypt Coup Daniel Halper July 7, 2013 12:03 PM Reuters columnist David Rohde said this morning on CBS that it was "terrible optics" for President Obama to go golfing and Secretary of State John Kerry to go yachting as the Egyptian leader was overthrown:

A spokeswoman for Secretary of State John Kerry reversed herself on Friday, now saying that Kerry was — indeed — sailing in Massachusetts as Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi was ousted in a military coup.

... The setting is what makes it so eyeroll-worthy. If Kerry had been seen at a barbecue, no one would bat an eye. But on board a $7 million yacht? It just doesn't seem like he's working hard. The incident fits a pattern for Kerry: a strange penchant for foppish gaffes involving water sports. First, of course, there was the epic television ad that George W. Bush ran against Kerry during the 2004 presidential campaign. Using footage of Kerry windsurfing and comparing his zig-zagging to a supposed propensity to change his positions... Then fast-forward to 2010, when then-Senator Kerry admitted...

Secretary of State John Kerry spent time lounging around on his yacht Wednesday while the Egyptian military was deposing their country's democratically elected president Mohammed Morsi, according to various reports. When Kerry was first spotted on his yatch, called "Isabel," near his vacation home in Nantucket, State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki called the report "completely inaccurate" saying that the Secretary of State had been "working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in Egypt," according to CBS News. Psaki even went so far as to deny that Kerry was even on the boat.

July 5th, 2013 01:15 PM ET 19 minutes ago State Department admits Kerry was on yacht day of Egypt coup Posted by CNN Chief Washington Correspondent Jake Tapper (CNN) - After the emergence of photographs showing Secretary of State John Kerry on his 76-foot yacht “Isabel” on Nantucket Sound on Thursday, the State Department issued an embarrassing correction Friday morning, back-tracking and acknowledging that the Secretary was in fact on the yacht on Wednesday, the day the Egyptian military staged a coup against democratically-elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy. Originally, State Department officials were quick to deny a Wednesday tweet from...

As Egypt plunges into crisis John Kerry has been allegedly spotted relaxing at his holiday home in Nantucket for Independence Day. The Secretary of State, who has just returned from a 12-day tour to the Middle East, was spotted near the July 4 festivities in the center of town, and on his yacht. With the Egyptian military ousting President Morsi amid violent protests, many in Nantucket were surprised to see Mr. Kerry at his holiday home rather than in Washington. He is staying at the popular Massachusetts island near Cape Cod with his daughters and their husbands, according to the...

Since the reports of Secretary of State John Kerry allegedly spending time on his yacht yesterday—the same day Egypt’s former president was ousted from office—there’s been a flurry of denials and explanations. Still, the CBS reporter who first noted the story refuses to retract it — and there could be evidence that backs up his claims.

Senator John F. Kerry yesterday acknowledged for the first time that he mishandled the political fallout from questions about taxes on his new $7 million yacht berthed in Rhode Island, but insisted that he always intended to make the $500,000 payment once he had registered the boat in Massachusetts. “Our fault,’’ the Massachusetts Democrat said in an interview. “I don’t think I dealt with it fast enough, effectively enough. There’s nobody to blame but myself for that.’’ Last Friday, Kerry issued a less-than-definitive statement about the matter, saying, “If I owe taxes, I will pay promptly.’’ That was followed over...
