Kamala Harris officially resigned her Senate seat on Monday ahead of her historic inauguration as the first woman vice president in American history. Harris, who has served as California’s junior Democratic senator since 2017, submitted a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom saying her resignation took effect at noon.
