Everyone is probably already in FReeper snoozeland, but I'll post this anyway. I was chatting with a friend earlier, and I was reminded of a scene and quote from the movie When Peggy Sue Got Married. That made me think of the music from that movie, which I couldn't quite recall, but I knew it was really pretty and emotion evoking. IT might not be the best Bond film but the music for Moonraker by Yorkshire-born composer John Barry is out of this world. Thirty six years after Roger Moore saved the world from baddies Hugo Drax and Jaws, fans of the late John Barry’s work are banding together to raise £25,000 for the entire film score to be re-recorded by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

The soundtrack to the 1979 Disney space epic has been remastered, expanded, and now available from Disney and Intrada records. Oscar-winning composer John Barry, the man behind many of the iconic James Bond theme tunes, has died at the age of 77.

LONDON (AP) - Composer John Barry, who won five Oscars for his film work but was best known for his contributions to a dozen James Bond movies, has died. He was 77. Barry died in New York on Sunday, his family said. The English-born composer won two Oscars, for the score and the song, for "Born Free" in 1966, and he earned single statuettes for "The Lion in Winter" (1968), "Out of Africa" (1985) and "Dances with Wolves" (1990).

Composer John Barry is being honored with a lifetime achievement award from the World Soundtrack Academy. The four-time Oscar winner will receive the award on Oct. 21, during the Ghent Film Festival in Belgium.
