<p>Before the past year vanishes into the mists of memory, I wanted to write about an event that was one of my 2003 highlights. I wasn't able to get to it at the time, and I return to it now because it was so moving and, I think, part of something that may one day move our nation in a more life-affirming direction. Late last October I heard Jennifer O'Neill speak at a Pregnancy Resource Centers of Greater Portland gala. In fact, at dinner, I sat next to the "Summer of '42" star and "Cover Girl" cosmetics spokeswoman.</p>
