Churchgoers in Chicago could face citations for attending in-person services on Sunday, according to the mayor's office. Dozens of churches across the country, including a handful in Illinois, participated in "Peaceably Gather Sunday," organized by Kentucky pastor Brian Gibson, which sought to defy states' coronavirus stay-at-home orders. In Illinois, Gov. J.B. Pritzker's order doesn't allow more than 10 people at a place of worship. Chicago's Mayor Lori Lightfoot may have exempted herself from her own prohibition on haircuts, but she made and carried out drastic, and probably illegal, threats against a church that announced its plans to hold Sunday services yesterday.  Evidently, only important people like the mayor get to exercise their constitutional rights. What a travesty on so many levels. As reported by CBS Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot ordered a parking ban from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in the neighborhood of Philadelphia Romanian Church in response to its intention to hold services.
