President Obama wants more Syrian Muslim refugees in the West. Speaking in Turkey on Monday, Obama explained that the West needed to open its heart to Muslim refugees, who after all were fleeing from terrorism in the Middle East to the safe and warm arms of the West. Meanwhile, Obama continued to maintain that Islamic radicalism presents no threat to the world.

Donald Trump suggested Monday that U.S. counterterrorism officials should shut down certain mosques in response to the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris last week. “I would hate to do it but it’s something you’re going to have to strongly consider,” the 2016 Republican frontrunner said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” when asked if he would recommend taking the measure. “Some of the absolute hatred is coming from those areas,” he said.

Islam is keenly arguing for protection from peddlers of religious hatred but the problem lies with confused objectives. The argument is that it will safeguard against the vilifying of cherished beliefs but inevitably it will be used to shut down discussion of the behavior of religious icons that have been idealized to the point of distortion.
