Allen West wants courts to order elections officials to impound ballots and voting machines in preparation for a recount following his narrow loss to Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy. Motions for injunctions were filed in St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties. Information wasnât immediately available from Martin County, the third county in congressional District 18. West trails Murphy by 2,456 votes or 0.78 percent. Thatâs not close enough to trigger a state law that requires a recount for races decided by 0.5 percent or less. In a move closely watched by other Southern California law enforcement agencies, LAPD Chief Chalie Beck has ordered his officers end the practice of immediately seizing the cars of undocumented immigrants who are stopped at sobriety checkpoints. The move comes amid concerns that police were unfairly targeting those drivers. The news came as a relief for Maria Ranjel of Boyle Heights. Her husband and three sons are undocumented immigrants who drive all the time, even though they're ineligible to apply for drivers licenses in California. âWe know well that itâs against the law to drive without a license but itâs...

His plan amends a section of law that now allows police to confiscate vehicles containing drugs.
