    The Hill ^ | Sept. 26, 2010 | Mike Lillis
The Senate's top Republican on foreign policy said this weekend that drug traffickers operating on the Mexican border pose a more immediate national security threat than domestic terrorists. Sen. Richard Lugar (Ind.), senior Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is calling on the White House to intensify efforts to help Mexico fight drug lords at the border, where escalating violence has killed tens of thousands of people in the past few years. "Transnational drug trafficking organizations operating from Mexico represent the most immediate national security threat faced by the United States in the Western Hemisphere," Lugar said in remarks...

AN DIEGO -- The founder of the San Diego Minutemen is facing more legal problems, 10News reported. Jeff Schwilk is the focus of another defamation lawsuit that will be filed next week. In May, a jury decided he helped defame activist Joanne Yoon and was fined more than $130,000. A jury found Schwilk e-mailed members links to a Web site that called her vulgar names and implied Yoon was a prostitute. Recently, another e-mail to Minutemen members allegedly defaming Yoon was obtained by her attorney, Dan Gilleon.

GRAND RAPIDS — Federal immigration officials have completed a five-day sweep of western Michigan in which they apprehended 54 fugitive illegal immigrants who had disappeared after receiving deportation orders. They also captured an illegal immigrant with an extensive criminal history who had illegally re-entered the United States after being removed, officials at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Thursday. The initiative, dubbed "Operation Return to Sender," started Sept. 8 and ended Wednesday. The agency focused its efforts within the triangle formed by Lansing, Grand Rapids and Battle Creek. The sweep was part of an "interior immigration enforcement strategy" that is a...

Companies being underbid by, and losing business to, competitors that employ illegal immigrant workers are fighting back using federal anti-racketeering laws and/or state unfair competition laws, reports The Associated Press. The idea is to level the playing field by creating an economic disincentive to hiring illegal aliens at below-market wages. ... In the first suit based on California’s unfair-competition laws, Global Horizons, a temporary employment agency that supplied farm workers sued a grower, Munger Brothers, and two competing employment firms, Ayala Agricultural Services and J&A Contractors. The suit claims that Munger Brothers broke a contract with Global Horizons to provide...
  • Volunteers travel from afar to build border fence

PALOMINAS — For many people, building a barbed-wire fence under the burning Arizona sun would probably be the last way they would want to spend their Memorial Day weekend. Not Minuteman Project volunteer Christie Czajkowski, however. She signed up for the group’s weekend fence-building inauguration almost as soon as she heard about it — even though it meant driving 15 hours from her home in Chula Vista, Calif. “What else am I going to do, go to another beach party?” laughed the 33-year-old baker as she paused from a turn at stringing wire. “No, I need to do something to...

This caught my eye several months ago and its a good way of enforcing immigration law. This may give you the added tool to enforce immigration law. From the Backrounder In 1996, Congress expanded the Racketeer influenced and Corrupt Organization(RICO) to include violations of federal immigration law. While this expansion may not recieved publicity, it could potentially change the face of U.S. immigration law eforcement. Under the new RICO provisions, a violation of certain provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act(INA) meets the definition of racketeering activity, also know an "predicate offenses" and an entity that engages in a pattern of...

escribing it alternately as a friend on life support, a long shot and a poison pill, Bay Area lawmakers are not optimistic about a favorable compromise immigration bill. The Senate's Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act hammered out of more than 200 amendments in the past two weeks now joins the House's Border Protection, Antiterrorism and Illegal Immigration Control Act in a committee tasked with finding common ground. "The conference is where the obituary for these bills has been written," said Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Alamo. Tauscher, like most House Democrats, favors the Senate package but said it appears to be on life...

VIENNA - The night air in Vienna has finally turned warm, filling the city's trams with visitors. On the Ringstrasse, tourists take in the city, pointing out the City Hall and the parliament. "Did you see that one girl - so young! And wearing a veil," a woman clucks in lightly accented English, staring out the window of tram D. "They will form a separate culture." The sentiment isn't isolated. Earlier this month, Austria's Interior Minister Liese Prokop announced that 45 percent of Muslim immigrants were "unintegratable," and suggested that those people should "choose another country." In the Netherlands, one...

SAN DIEGO ---- Immigration agents arrested 29 foreign nationals today who are employed by a Lakeside business that provides construction workers to the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, authorities said. The arrests of 28 Mexicans and one Honduran stemmed from a continuing illegal immigration audit of the Oceanside military base, but authorities said it wasn't known whether any of them had ever worked at Camp Pendleton. "What we have been able to piece together is that none of these 29 have been working recently on the base," said Michael Unzueta, special agent in charge of the San Diego regional U.S....

Be Careful What You Wish For So, we get 350 miles of fence...the Dems and Immigration proponents everything else. I knew this was going to turn out bad. By elevating the issue of illegal immigration to a crisis level, immigration reform advocates have handed the dems and the immigration lobby the vehicle by which they will really open the floodgates and naturalize 120 million new potential dem voters over the next 20 years. Ths was never going to work. The House and Senate simply have too many RINO's to effect the kind of change that reformists dreamed of. Anyone who...
