One of Hillary Clinton’s closest advisers told her that Barack Obama should use a deadly hurricane to boost his re-election campaign, a proposal that she agreed to pass on to the White House, a new tranche of emails reveals. Blair and Clinton transcripts reveal global concerns of two buddies Read more Sidney Blumenthal, a longtime friend of the Clintons, sent a memo in 2012 presenting a strategy for turning Hurricane Isaac to the Democrats’ political advantage by contrasting it with President George W Bush’s handling of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

President Barack Obama was today forced to announce he will fly to storm-hit Louisiana on Monday – hours after Mitt Romney beat him to the punch by deciding to head there this afternoon. After it emerged that Obama was still taking time to fit in a campaign stop in Cleveland, Ohio, before checking out how clean-up operations are proceeding in the Bayou state, the Obama campaign abruptly cancelled that event, though he will still hold a rally in Toledo, Ohio before heading south. But the Republican presidential candidate touched down in the Hurricane ravaged state this afternoon - a full...

Officials are executing a controlled breach of a dam in Mississippi this afternoon to prevent it from failing, and local authorities in Louisiana have ordered the mandatory evacuation of as many as 60,000 people downriver as a precaution against potential flooding.

Go watch the clip again. There’s nothing jokey or witty or clever about it. It’s a straightforward accusation of racism and callousness, and of course one of the other schmucks there laughs because he’s a nasty liberal hack too who’s thinking the same thing. It’s a laugh of recognition, and maybe a bit of surprise that Chalian would be willing to say that with mics around. So here’s his attempt to make himself employable again: I am profoundly sorry for making an inappropriate and thoughtless joke. I was commenting on the challenge of staging a convention during a hurricane and...

The arrival of Hurricane Isaac exactly seven years after Hurricane Katrina blasted New Orleans has some people wondering if there’s more to it than random chance, and suggesting the popular homosexual festival Southern Decadence may be part of a judgment from God. “A hurricane hitting a celebration of decadence … twice in seven years. What are the odds?” asks Robin Cox, a lifelong Gulf Coast resident. “Does it seem God has it in for New Orleans?” adds Mary Starkey. “Just contemplating why this has happened twice in seven years at exact same time of year.”

Mitt Romney officially clinched the GOP presidential nomination on Tuesday to move a step closer in his five-year quest for the White House. To roaring cheers at the Republican National Convention in the packed Tampa Bay Times Forum, the delegation from New Jersey put Romney above the 1,144-delegate threshold, ensuring he will be the GOP challenger against President Barack Obama in November. Earlier, the 2,200-plus convention delegates approved a conservative platform that called for less government, opposed same-sex marriage and endorsed a "human life amendment" to ban abortion with no specific exceptions for cases of rape, incest or when the...

Isaac has been slow to organize and attain hurricane status. Slow moving minimal Hurricane Isaac threatens to dump up to 20" of rain in portions of its path. Storm surge of 6-12ft is expected. Media news readers have gleefully reported RNC scheduling adjustments to accommodate public safety during Tampa storm warnings. A water spout formed in the Tampa Channelside area at 4:43PM Monday afternoon, a short distance from the RNC Convention Center. The Florida Atlantic coast was inundated with torrential rain squalls from far-reaching Isaac outer bands. Several tornados were reported in the Florida peninsula. The weather took its toll...

Thousands in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama were being told early Monday to leave their Gulf Coast homes ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaac as forecasters warned it was gaining strength as it followed the same path Hurricane Katrina took seven years earlier. The governors of the three states each declared a state of emergency, with Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley ordering mandatory evacuations to begin at 8 a.m. for residents who live along the coast and for those in some low-lying areas inland. "I am urging everyone to take precautions now, monitor weather warnings, and be prepared for whatever...

On August 24th, we warned on Forbes that Tropical Storm Isaac could pose a threat to energy markets and even rival Hurricane Katrina in its destructive power (Could Tropical Storm Isaac Turn Into Another Katrina?). While the computer models are still showing a substantial spread in solutions, it appears more likely that Isaac will make landfall somewhere near the Louisiana, Mississippi Gulf Coast. This track will provide the storm more time to intensify over the very warm water of the Gulf of Mexico. The entire Gulf Coast from Lake Charles, LA to Panama City, FL should be aware of the...

NHC has been slow to adjust their forecast, but models in the last 24week hours have been indicating a possible Cat 3 hitting New Orleans. While dems have been rooting for the Tampa landfall to ruin our convention, a NO landfall catastrophe with Jindal running circles around 0, while 0 is playing politics during the aftermath... maybe it is their convention that gets ruined. I am certainly not rooting for a disaster, but it would certainly be ironic.

"CLEAR THE AREA OF POTENTIAL FLYING OBJECTS. Anything and everything in our yard AND the neighborhood that could be turned into a missile (including that 100lb garden pot you don’t think can fly…it can), goes into the garage.... BOARDING UP: If you want to board up, this is how we did it (In Pensacola, ’04 for Hurricane Ivan). (Now, there are great Plylox Hurricane Clips available, which will save you step #2," .......
