A sign of Dems' desperation in the NY governor's race, trying to smear a GOP candidate with the "insurrectionist" label. We already knew that the January 6 Committee of the House of Representatives was a partisan, illegitimate effort, denying Republican leadership the right to name its own members. Yesterday, the committee confirmed this status with a leak intended to hurt the gubernatorial campaign of GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin, who is closing in on Democrat Kathy Hochul in the polls. Such activity has nothing at all to do with the committee’s charter or legitimate activities. The New York Sun reports: Congressman...

WASHINGTON — Multiple members of the U.S. Secret Service have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to Department of Homeland Security documents reviewed by Yahoo News. In March, the Secret Service, which is responsible for the protection of President Trump and other leaders, acknowledged that a single employee tested positive in March. However the problem is currently far more widespread, with 11 active cases at the agency as of Thursday evening, according to a daily report compiled by the DHS. This report comes as a pair of cases among White House staffers close to Trump...

President Trump stuck to old themes and complaints in his highly touted campaign kickoff speech in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday night. The president railed against the “fake news,” “socialism,” investigations into his administration, the Democrats running to replace him, former President Barack Obama and the Clinton family in the marathon speech, which lasted well over an hour. Trump framed his re-litigation of the conflicts from the 2016 election and the first half of his presidential term as a defense of his supporters. “The Democrats don’t care about Russia. They only care about their own political power. They went after my...

WASHINGTON – Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into President Trump’s efforts to build a skyscraper in Moscow has led him to ask questions about the role two of the president’s children played in attempting to secure a Russian real estate deal, sources tell Yahoo News. Mueller’s interest in the Trump family real estate company’s plans for a skyscraper in Russia was confirmed on Thursday when Michael Cohen, the president’s former attorney and fixer, pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the proposed deal. In charging documents, Mueller said Cohen falsely claimed that the effort to build a Trump Tower Moscow...

Usually when reporters ask about the gorilla in the room, it's not an actual gorilla. Not so Tuesday, when between reporter queries about his potential running mate and his policies on veterans' health care, Donald Trump fielded a question from Yahoo News reporter Hunter Walker asking the presumptive Republican nominee on his thoughts regarding the Cincinnati Zoo's decision to shoot and kill a rare gorilla after a 4-year-old boy fell into his enclosure. ... But on Twitter, where media wars are often begun and settled, Walker's fellow scribes saw fit to pillory him for the question.

The dustup over a data breach that briefly erupted in the Democratic presidential primary last week isn't over as far as Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and his team are concerned. In a conversation with Yahoo News, a top Sanders campaign adviser made a series of explosive allegations about how the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and a political technology company that works with the party handled the incident. According to the Sanders adviser, the DNC and NGP VAN, a firm that has a contract with the party organization to operate a voter file, have responded to the data breach by “leaking...

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) is the only major Republican likely 2016 presidential candidate who hasn't weighed in on the controversy over Indiana's "religious freedom" law that erupted this week — and his explanation for avoiding the issue is questionable.
