Any science fiction fans out there? Interesting article about a new scifi book dealing with the Chinese genocide against the Uyghurs. Sounds like the author is a conservative Catholic.

Last Monday afternoon, Entertainment Weekly posted a story in its Books section with the ominous headline: "Hugo Award nominations fall victim to misogynistic, racist voting campaign." Within a few hours, the headline changed to: "Correction: Hugo Awards voting campaign sparks controversy." Both versions of the EW story were about the annual Hugo Awards given out to science fiction and fantasy writers. In the original version, EW's Isabella Biedenharn claimed that "misogynist groups lobbied to nominate only white males for the science fiction book awards," urging their followers to "cast votes against female writers and writers of color." Robert Heinlein could not win a Hugo Award today. If you are a fan of science fiction, you know how shocking that statement is. If you are not a science fiction fan, I salute you for having better things to do with your time than read stories about space princesses being rescued from bug-eyed monsters by stalwart and clean-limbed fighting men of Virginia; but please let me explain why this is shocking.

Orson Scott Card's 1985 Hugo and Nebula Award winning science fiction novel, Ender's Game, is finally coming to the cinema. Principal photography has been completed. The film is in post production and is scheduled for release on November 1, 2013. Gavin Hood is the director and Card is one of the producers. Asa Butterfield is in the title role and other cast members include, Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, Moises Arias, Aramis Knight, Hailee Steinfeld, Jimmy Pinchak, Abigail Breslin, and Viola Davis.
