As we await the final tally of ballots to determine who will have control of the House of Representatives, by all accounts it looks like the Republicans will keep control by 2 or more seats. With, more or less, 10 races left to call. republicans lead in almost all of them. Therefore I hereby request the following. WANTED FOR HIRE: One Fat Lady WHERE: To Stand On The Steps Outside of Congress WHEN: Now JOB: Sing!

Is there a source for accurate information on the remaining House races? Its a week after Election day.... how the hell aren't these votes counted, fabricated, whatever it is they are doing? What seats does the GOP expect to win?
  • The News Just Keeps Getting Worse for House Democrats: It's been almost two weeks since Election Day, and Democrats still haven't won a *single one* of the 27 House races

House Democrats are re-electing their entire leadership, despite the most embarrassing showing by their party in House races since at least 2010.In short, they took a “shell-ack-in.”With just a few races uncalled (and Republicans leading in 4 of 5 contests), Democrats have lost nine seats. What makes those losses doubly painful was explained by Dave Wasserman of the Cook Political Report:It's been almost two weeks since Election Day, and Democrats still haven't won a *single one* of the 27 House races in @CookPolitical's Toss Up column.Four remain too close to call: #CA21, #CA25, #IA02, #NY02 and #NY22.— Dave Wasserman (@Redistrict)...

WASHINGTON, April 11 (Reuters) - Longtime Republican congressman Thomas Petri of Wisconsin will not seek re-election in November, announcing his decision just a week after a conservative state legislator revealed plans to mount a primary challenge for his seat.Petri, 73, viewed as a moderate member of the party, will formally announce his retirement plans at a town hall meeting on Monday in Neenah, Wisconsin, his office said in a statement on Friday. It gave no details about the reason for the decision.Glenn Grothman, a Wisconsin state senator who is considered one of the state's most conservative Republicans, said last week...

Our list of Vulnerable Democrats just keeps growing. We have added 4 more Vulnerable Dems to our Master List: MA-04, ME-01, MO-03 and TX-27.We would like to congratulate Barney Frank for making it on to our Master List in this last week of the 2010 election season. So we now have 110 seats in play - 103 Dem seats and 7 for the Republicans. And only 4 of those GOP seats are looking vulnerable at this point. We also added OR-05 to our Tier 2 list that now has 8 Not-Quite-Ready-For-Prime-Time Vulnerable Dems that are our leading candiates for making it to...
  • UPDATE: Polling shows Republicans to gain 80 House Seats; 110 in reach.

Survey of most recent polling shows Republicans ahead in EIGHTY House seats currently held by Democrats, and within striking range in 30 more. 84 would give the Republicans a majority of 60%If your district isn't on this list, it doesn't mean the Democrat is ahead, only that there is no polling demonstrating a Republican's lead; My tracking doesn't include most races where no polling exists. I selected the best polling available for each of these races; In many cases, that means the most recent, but internal polls are viewed suspiciously. Internal polls are noted with a "D" or an "R"...

Last Week, we compiled a list of potential sleeper races while expressing the need to swing for the fences so we don't leave any seat behind. Based upon some news report this week, I would ad these few districts. Anyone who lives in these districts may want to send some $$$ to these donkey tormentors. MD-2: Dutch Ruppersberger (D+7)- Donate to Marcelo Cardarelli here MD-5: Steny Hoyer (D+7)- Donate to Charles Lollar here MI-5: Dale Kildee (D+7)- Donate to John Kupiec here OH-10: Dennis Kucinich (D+8)- Donate to Peter Corrigan here Here is the original list of sleeper races: AZ-7:...
  • District by District Polls Showing Republicans Will Sweep Congress

    Every poll I could find ^ | 9-1-10 | dangus
Polls have been conducted in a small minority of districts, but there are still plenty to show that Republicans are poised to take control of Congress. (The more competitive districts are most likely to have polls taken in them, of course.) After checking Wikipedia, Real Clear Politics and googling the names of every remaining candidate in Republican-leaning districts with Democratic congressmen, I present the poll data to show Republicans already leading in plenty of districts to overwhelm the Democrats' current 39-seat majority. Based only on this data (excluding hundreds of districts with no polling found), I predict 52-60 seats gained....

A longtime Western Pennsylvania politician once said, “You run with the top of the ticket when you can, and run away from it when you have to.” Which explains U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire’s short answer as to whether he will campaign in his district with Barack Obama: He’ll “consider it.” Altmire -– a previous skeptic of offshore drilling who now supports it, pitting him against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi -– said it will depend on when the presumptive nominee comes to town and if their schedules mesh. “I am not going to avoid it,” he added.
  • When Candidates Can't Lose - Making House Races Competitive again

Competition and democracy go hand in hand. After races that came down to the narrowest of margins in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, Americans are getting used to hard-fought, close presidential elections -- and the 2008 campaign is the most electrifying in years. Both Democratic candidates have won more primary votes than any previous nominee. Both have ushered new voters into the process, as has the sheer closeness of the campaign. But real competition is still a rare commodity in the House of Representatives, which the Framers designed to be hard-fought. For all the talk of thin majorities...

WASHINGTON -- The midterm elections approach, and there is excitement in Washington. Some of the learned psephologists predict a close struggle for control, at least in the House of Representatives. Others predict a "blow-out," with the Republicans being blown out in the House and possibly edged out in the Senate. Looking back on history we should have predicted setbacks for the Republicans in this off-year election. President George W. Bush broke with historic convention when he actually picked up seats in 2002, but now things are apparently back to normal. In normal times the sitting president's party suffers losses on...

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds (R-NY) assessed House races in the final month before the November election at a briefing for reporters on Monday. He sees a shrinking number of competitive contests, which bodes well for his party since Republicans hold a majority in the House of Representatives. He said, "The odds just keep getting better to keep the House." Reynolds pointed out that most political experts agree that there are less than 35 seats that are in play. Republicans hold 214 "safe" seats, while Democrats will likely retain 187. He said that a...

Republican hopes of handing onto control of the U.S. House of Representatives look good as the November congressional elections loom just six weeks ahead - but if they do, it won't be by a landslide. In a run down of House races, the New York Times took a look at the arithmetic involved And found that the GOP has about 10 more safe seats than the Democrats. "So even if they won fewer than half of the approximately 40 races that are truly competitive, they could still keep control of the House," wrote Times reporter Adam Clymer who notes that...
