Whether you're cozied up with your sweetheart or enjoying a girls' night, grab some popcorn (and chocolate) and treat yourself to the classics.Picking a movie is always a daunting task in my family. My mom and I have had to sit through our fair share of war movies with no discernible plot, while my dad and brother have patiently suffered through “Gone With The Wind.” The beauty of a good rom-com is having enough “rom” to satisfy more sentimental audiences and enough “com” to keep less romantic viewers interested. As a connoisseur of the “rom,” I can’t guarantee all the...

If you're into rappeling or knot tying for fun or practical survival, have a look at this Bachmann knot. You're going to need it if you're going to encounter climbing up a wet rope. For those not familiar with it, the Bachmann knot is a uni-directional, meaning it can only be loaded from one direction and that's down. Again, its something that most survivalist should know, but how many have actually practice climbing with it? See the video here.

Graphene is slated as the major breakthrough of this century. Infact it could very well propel the semiconductor a couple of decades easily (compared to the performance trend via Moore’s law ). Graphene transistors are more than capable of being clocked at 500Ghz so you get the idea of what Samsung is claiming to have achieved: a replicateable production process of Graphene nodes.Graphene.Experimental gFET Graphene Production – Scientific breakthrough of this century to be used in CPUs* of wearable devicesOK, I admit, I was being slightly sarcastic when I wrote the headline. It seems sort of ironic that if Samsung’s...

Alfred Hitchcock's lost documentary about the horrors of the Holocaust is scheduled to be screened in full for the first time. The legendary moviemaker created the documentary using footage filmed during the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany in 1945, and Hitchcock was reportedly so traumatized by the shocking scenes, he took a week off work to recover. The project, originally titled Memory of the Camps, was eventually shelved, and the film reels were given to the Imperial War Museum in London. Some of the documentary was later cobbled back together and an incomplete version was screened at the...

Wondering about that muffled howl you’ve been hearing the last couple weeks? It’s the sound and fury of feminists reacting to Michael Noer’s latest exegesis, Don’t Marry a Career Woman. Noer’s column, which ran at Forbes.com, surveyed marriages in which the wives doggedly pursue a high-powered career, all the while neglecting family and home. The research shows these women are more likely to be unhappy if she earns more than the guy, or if she quits her job and stays home. Either way, she’s going to be a grump. Her husband is more prone to be discontented if she is...

Hollywood's problems at the box office last year may come down not so much to quality (or the lack thereof), as many have supposed, but to taste. There are plenty of talented craftsman in Hollywood, but—and this will come as no surprise—the prevailing tastes in Hollywood may not match those of the general movie-going public. Just look at the films that people actually went to see last year, and compare that list to what Hollywood is now recognizing as 2005's best. The 15 top-grossing films released in 2005, in descending order, were: Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith; Harry...

So, Bill Clinton got it wrong as usual, by making a smarmy plea for a truce of civility from his Little Rock library redoubt. The Iraq debate does not need to become less rude or less intense. It needs to become much more bitter and much more polarized. As I never tire of saying, heat is not the antithesis of light but rather the source of it. No, the problem with the Iraq confrontation, as fought "at home," is not its level of anger but its level of argument. After almost three years of combat, the standard of debate ought...

ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (Sept. 30, 2005) -- On Aug. 29, Hurricane Katrina made landfall and left a path of destruction along the Gulf Coast from the panhandle of Florida to the Mississippi Delta. As the nation realized the scale of the disaster, the Marines of Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force St. Bernard, named for the Louisiana parish that would become the focus of efforts, were preparing to respond. Aircraft and Marines from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461 deployed to Pensacola, Fla., to begin rescue and evacuation missions. Reserve Marines from Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas; Jackson and Gulfport,...

Once again, a major story gets top billing in a mainstream paper—and is printed upside down. "Looting at Weapons Plants Was Systematic, Iraqi Says." This was how the New York Times led its front page on Sunday. According to the supporting story, Dr. Sami al-Araji, the deputy minister of industry, says that after the fall of Baghdad in April 2003, "looters systematically dismantled and removed tons of machinery from Saddam Hussein's most important weapons installations, including some with high-precision equipment capable of making parts for nuclear arms." As printed, the implication of the story was not dissimilar from the Al-Qaqaa...

Casting Will Smith's love interest in the big screen comedy 'Hitch' appears to be not a simple black or white decision.Cuban-American actress Eva Mendes was given the role opposite Smith because moviemakers were worried about the public's reaction if the part was given to a white or African American actress according to Smith. The actor said that is was feared that a black couple would have put off world wide audiences and an interracial combo would have offended viewers in the United States.'There's sort of an accepted myth thatif you have two black actors, a male and a female in the...

Excerpt from a post election interview with host Tony Jones:TONY JONES: With a huge popular mandate, and with much firmer control over both houses of congress, what more would you expect ? Obviously we're going to see the Supreme Court revamped, there are other issues on the plate as well. There are Republicans tonight talking about more tax cuts, talking about mining in the national park in Alaska, etc, what do you think the second term agenda is going to be like? CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS: You know the thing that most keeps the Democrats and the liberals together always been the...

The gay movement in the United States ...... has had at least one good effect with which nobody can quarrel. The closeted homosexual is a sad figure from the past, and so is the homosexual who tries desperately to "marry" a heterosexual..... This may seem like an oblique way in which to approach Mel Gibson's ghastly movie .... .... an associate of his had once told me, in lacerating detail, that an evening with Mel was one long fiesta of boring but graphic jokes about anal sex. ... long before he emerged as the spear-carrier for the sort of Catholicism...

The row over the boulder-sized version of the so-called "Ten Commandments," and as to whether they should be exhibited in such massive shape on public property, misses the opportunity to consider these top-10 divine ordinances and their relationship to original intent. Judge Roy Moore is clearly, as well as a fool and a publicity-hound, a man who identifies the Mount Sinai orders to Moses with a certain interpretation of Protestantism. But we may ask ourselves why any sect, however primitive, would want to base itself on such vague pre-Christian desert morality (assuming Moses to be pre-Christian). The first four of...
