United for our troops April 26, 2003 Support for Our Troops Sponsored by United for our troops 11:00 AM Grant Park in downtown Chicago Our point is to show support for our troops and their families. This rally is not meant to oppose "Anti-War" protestors, rather it is to show the world, our troops, and ourselves that we can be united in one voice. We support those troops in the front line, those who have loved ones in the front line, those whom have lost loved ones in the line of duty and to pay respect to those who have...

I remember reading this story years ago about a guy who was fired at work yet no one immediately around him knew it at the time. So he kept coming into work.

Every day at 9 a.m. sharp, he would take off his coat, neatly place it beside his desk, sit down and do his job -- making purchase orders, even attending meetings!

Hello fellow Freepers. I am writing an essay defining "citizen" and the meaning of the word. This is one definition I have found... "A person owing loyalty to and entitled by birth or naturalization to the protection of a state or nation." I want to write about the differences of being an American Citizen to being an Iraqi citizen and I would like to especially concentrate on the "owing loyalty to" part of the definition. I am going to write that I think citizens of the United States should respect and be loyal to their nation considering the wonderful privileges...

Paris - President Jacques Chirac announced today that France would be deploying two elite units of French troops to Iraq in the event of war. Five hundred crack troops from the 2nd Groupement d'Instruction en Abandonment are mobilizing to assist the Iraqi Army in the finer points of military surrender. "The immediate capitulation of an armed force is a delicate and intricate tactic in which we French have much experience." said Defense Ministry spokesperson General de Armee Francois-Phillippe Hommes de Petit-Pommes. "There is a certain protocol in laying down your arms or fleeing the battlefield. To wave the white flag...

Texas Creates DNA Database To Identify Missing Persons Texas' new missing persons DNA database is generating a fresh sense of hope for people involved in the search for missing persons, including families worried about a missing loved one, detectives and medical examiners. The DNA Identity Lab at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth developed the database over the past two years and started accepting DNA samples Jan. 1, 2003. Its staff of forensic geneticists will use a direct link to the Federal Bureau of Investigation to expand the search beyond Texas' borders. The lab's forensic...

I've been following the blog on this link. Not being a veteran, I was confused by one piece of military lingo: "CO" and "XO". I do know enough to know that CO = Commanding Officer and XO = Executive Officer. Past that I'm hazy. I am under the impression that an XO is the "second in command" of a military unit. Is that correct? What are the duties of an XO? Sorry for making a post out of this, but I didn't know where else to go for the answer.

Help! I am going to be presenting this Resolution to our City Board, Mayor and City on TV Monday night, and I need a good "non-partisan" introduction that WILL jab it to the leftwing radical without seeming like that's what I'm doing. I need to bring to light the upcoming threats to the American population of VIOLENCE on our soil by the left-wing radicals when sadaam is toppled. I do take their threats seriously. THe intro must be short / sweet /to the point - no hate but a simple statememt of facts leading into the resolution. I had a...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Major airlines say they need government's help -- $9 billion in tax cuts -- to withstand the decline in air travel and rising fuel costs that could result from a war in Iraq.

The Air Transport Association, which represents major airlines, predicted on Tuesday that a war in Iraq would result in passenger traffic falling more sharply than in the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

A revised and condensed version of The Lexicon of FreeRepublic, culled from the original thread. Thanks to the many Freepers who contributed! FreeRepublic Glossary Anti-Freeper - See Freeper Lore. Arkancide = Mysterious death that somehow manages to happen to former friends of Bill and Hillary Clinton. Usually ruled a "suicide" by the "controlling legal authorities" that happen to be conducting the investigation. Usually the body is found with all the fixin's; suicide note (in two or more handwriting styles), unregistered handgun (sometimes in a different caliber than the one the "suicide" was accomplished using), and "air-tight" alibis passed around like...

The national USO wants you to send your $25 check to Washington to buy a "care package" for a service member overseas. But Ginny Compton of the USO at Lambert Field thinks you might also want to invest money right here at home.

Hi, I'm writing a research paper in English class on the topic on the disadvantages of affirmative action. I recently visited the local library and checked out a few books on the issue. However, I need some other sources besides books. So, if anyone can recommend some magazine articles, online articles, etc. I'd appreciate it. As well, I'm looking to divide the paper in subsections; like how the practice puts the public in danger (hiring less qualified people in the police field, as doctors, ect.). If anyone could recommend a sub-topic, I'd also be grateful. Thanks again.

Prosecutors say a pet cockatoo that was killed while trying to protect its owner from an attacker produced evidence crucial in convicting the man's murderer.

Kevin Butler's 18-inch white-crested cockatoo, named Bird, flew at the Daniel Torres during the Christmas Eve 2001 attack and pecked him in the head, drawing blood. Torres wiped the blood and then touched a light switch, leaving his DNA at the crime scene, authorities said.

Hi everyone. Ok this may sound bizarre, but I need to find C++ training, and as fast as possible. I am 'between' jobs right now, and have a great new job lined up, BUT I need to learn C++. Now, this is not a huge stretch, as I have been programming in Java, Visual Basic and various web scripting languages for years. I simply need an intensive C++ course that will cover syntax and how the language implements various programming structures. Now, here is the thing... I am willing to pay a small finders fee to anyone who can find...

Hey all. This weekend we got to see the absolute desperation within Liberal ranks to find a credible voice of opposition with the roll out of Retired [wonder why] General Wesley Clark The former NATO Commander of the Euroweenie/Clinton war in Bosnia. Of course the humble [implied] General is unsure as to what his personal ideology is [ala Colin Powell] even though last November he gave $1,000.00 to Democratic Erskin Bowles as he ran for office against Liddy Dole in North Carolina [per opensecrets.org] and of course he really hasn’t come to a decision as to whether or not he...

Nation defenceless against nuke 14feb03 AUSTRALIA has no capacity to deal with a nuclear missile threat from North Korea, Defence Force Chief Peter Cosgrove has admitted. "Any missile threat that might emanate from Korea is going to be something that is going to be something which is well beyond the ordinary and present capacity of the Australian Defence Force, or any other agency in Australia, to do anything about," he told Channel 9. "It's a fact of life and we live in that environment. "It's quite clear that what we want to do with Korea, what the international community...

Okay, My daughters math teacher is on maternity leave and in the interim has been replaced with a retired economics professor. Great, we need economics in American high schools, unfortunately this guy has gone way beyond getting the kids to calculate price elasticity or the production possibility boundary. He has assigned them to write a stand alone program for their Texas Instruments Ti-83 calculators to calculate equilibrium price. The Ti-83 uses some bizarre proprietary semi-BASIC interpreter language, and after spending all night trying to figure out this damn thing and I am at my wits end. Does anyone have any...

As we all know, at least the FReepers that own companies, times are tough, and my get tougher. I have a real estate business here in Austin. We have tried companies that promise you to be in the top 10 searches. For a fee of course to be paid up front for 12 months. I want to give each of my agents thier own web site. We...

Hi! I am trying to locate an article that I read online within the last few months detailing the success of the abolitionist crusader, William Lloyd Garrison, as an example for pro-life activists to follow. I would have sworn that it was in First Things, but I can't seem to find it on their website. Has anyone seen it? Many thanks!
