NY awarded more than $600M to ‘sanctuary’ groups helping defy Trump, federal immigration law

Legal and migrant advocacy groups fighting to block New York from helping the Trump administration enforce US immigration laws have been awarded more than $600 million in taxpayer dollars from the city and state governments, a Post review of contracts revealed.

The Bronx Defenders alone has received more than $500 million in city contracts since fiscal year 2018 to provide a host of legal services to poor criminal and civil defendants, including migrants, according to a review of contracts from 2009 to the present.

And the legal aid group raked in another $32 million from the state over the years, records kept by the state comptroller’s office show.

Other groups were also funneled big bucks as they worked to undermine federal immigration policy, including Make the Road NY — which received $56 million to provide legal, health and other services mostly to immigrants, state and city contract records.

The group helped organize a rally at the state Capitol last month urging passage of a sanctuary bill as rally goers chanted, “No hate, no fear. Immigrants are welcome here.”

Government is awash in tax dollars because taxes are double what they need to be. In the highest taxed state in the union, NY, they have even more tax dollars to waste.

If the state of New York is rolling in all this cash, I would argue that they don’t need any Federal funds for anything.

Decent, rational people bitterly resent paying taxes for good reason.

“Decent, rational people bitterly resent paying taxes for good reason.”

I am decent.

I am rational.

I don’t bitterly resent paying taxes.

Same for my relatives, friends and neighbors.

Yet our roads STINK! Last year, we had a run on ROAD SALT of all things. You had to go to PA to get some salt for your own driveway!

To understand NY —go upstate and drive across the border ingto Vermont. New York is run down. Vermont is not.

I’ve seen the same thing along other state borders. South western VA is run down. But cross the border into Tennessee—and things spruce up considerably.

When 600 million goes to this kind of crap, resent is far too kind, but if you are okay with it, GFY(good for you)

Last year, we had a run on ROAD SALT of all things.

Because Hochul mandated the use of ONE company out near Rochester, probably a political favor. And when they ran low the local highway departments couldn't go elsewhere for weeks until they amended the mandate. Yep, that's NYS.

How am I, the “resent” comes from stories like this of how our tax money is spent, since you represent your relatives and neighbors and don’t. What am I to infer.

Maybe phrased like this. I understand taxes are needed to fund important government functions, but when money is spent like this I do resent that mu hard earned money is spent like this🤔

hard to get a handle on the numbers. $600 million since 2009.

Would be interesting to see a study of effectiveness. Most went to lawyers and bureaucracy it seems.

Nothing changes till the money runs out. We are in the process, money is getting tight for them. Patience.

States dominated by big cities, such as New York, Virginia, California, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Michigan, are controlled by the Democratic Party mafia. Rural and small town areas are neglected. Vermont is hyper liberal but at least it isn’t dominated by one large city. Also, unlike most of white rural America, rural Vermont is politically liberal to moderate. Ditto for rural and small town Massachusetts. There are also white rural areas of similar nature in the coastal counties of Washington, Oregon, and California, northeast Minnesota, and the eastern portion of upstate New York. Resort areas like Park City, Utah, Aspen, Colorado, Asheville, North Carolina, and Jackson, Wyoming are also left leaning. The sole red spot in Wyoming in the 2024 election was Teton County, where Jackson is located. You can easily spot liberal college towns like Athens, Ohio or State College, Pennsylvania, and Columbia, Missouri, as they are readily identifiable on electoral maps as blue islands in a red sea.
