    The Obama administration has repeatedly said that the health-insurance-plan cancellations receiving so much attention in the news in recent days will affect only the 5 percent of Americans who purchase insurance on the individual market. The Department of Justice, however, in a brief filed in federal court last month, conceded that the number may be much higher. According to the administration’s numbers, nearly 80 million additional Americans, “a majority” of those on employer-sponsored health plans, may also be out of luck. “It is projected that more group health plans will transition to the requirements under the regulations as time goes...

    Despite President Obama’s assurances to the contrary, millions of Americans are discovering that they will not be able to keep their current health insurance when the Affordable Care Act takes full effect next year. Reports Tuesday from CBS and NBC News document this development. According to CBS, US insurance firms have sent health policy cancellation notices to more than 2 million people, with 800,000 in New Jersey alone. NBC estimates that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million Americans .. can expect a cancellation letter, .. Mr. Obama has long insisted .. Americans who like their current health plan...

    Covered California executive director Peter Lee told the Chronicle editorial board that he expects 800,000 to 900,000 people to lose their non-grandfathered private insurance policies on Dec. 31, thanks to the Affordable Care Act. (This figure — which is higher than past numbers reported – does not include small business coverage.) “The individual market is changing dramatically,” Lee said. What about President Obama’s promise that if people liked their plan, they could keep it? “I think it was not well stated,” Lee answered. Obama’s rhetoric “may have been an inarticulate way of describing what the realities are.” How many will...

    WASHINGTON (AP) — Low-income workers on union health plans are not eligible for the same federal subsidies available to those who buy insurance in the new state health care marketplaces, the White House said Friday. The decision is a disappointment for labor unions, coming shortly after top union officials met for more than an hour with President Barack Obama to press their case that subsidies could be extended to union-sponsored plans.

    I just received notice from my insurance company that I will have no medical coverage for hospital procedures or for doctor's payments in 2011. Just prescription coverage only. I can pay anywhere from minimum of less than $15.00 a month to maximum of nearly $120.00 a month, but there is still NO MEDICAL COVERAGE on any of the plans offered. This is a major insurer. Is this what we can thank Obamacare for? {NOT!!!!!!}

    WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama signaled to House Democratic leaders Wednesday that they'll have to drop their opposition to taxing high-end health insurance plans to pay for health coverage for millions of uninsured Americans. In a meeting at the White House, Obama expressed his preference for the insurance tax contained in the Senate's health overhaul bill, but largely opposed by House Democrats and organized labor, Democratic aides said. The aides spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was private.

    As Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's team of health care consultants prepares a plan for overhauling California's $200 billion health care industry, administration officials say the governor is willing to consider all solutions -- including those that may be unpopular with the governor's allies in the business community. Though employer groups vociferously oppose requiring businesses to cover their workers, the governor's staff says that could be a part of his proposal. "Everything is on the table," Schwarzenegger's communications director, Adam Mendelsohn, said last week. Schwarzenegger actively worked in 2004 to repeal Senate Bill 2, a state law requiring big employers to provide...

    For Immediate ReleaseJanuary 24, 2004 The President's Address to the Nation      Audio Good Morning. In my State of the Union address, I spoke of a great priority for our nation, to confront the rising cost of health care, and make sure that more of our citizens can afford the health care they need. Health care costs are rising too fast for many families and businesses. It is time to address this problem directly, with five clear steps that Congress can take this year. First, we can help control rising health care costs by cutting down on frivolous lawsuits against doctors...
