Something is very, very wrong with Biden.

Findings from a new mouse study indicate that elenolic acid, a natural compound found in olives, can significantly lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss. This research suggests the potential for developing safe, inexpensive natural products for managing obesity and type 2 diabetes. Obese diabetic mice treated with elenolic acid showed improved blood sugar regulation and weight loss comparable to, or better than, current diabetic medications. The study highlights the compound’s ability to induce metabolic hormone release in the gut, promoting satiety and reducing food intake. Researchers are now investigating the compound’s absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion to ensure...

Sharks off the coast of Brazil have tested positive for cocaine, scientists say. Marine biologists tested 13 Brazilian sharpnose sharks taken from the shores near Rio de Janeiro and found they tested for high levels of cocaine in their muscles and livers. The concentrations were as much as 100 times higher than previously reported for other aquatic creatures. Experts believe the cocaine is making its way into the waters via illegal labs where the drug is manufactured or through excrement of drug users. Packs of cocaine lost or dumped by traffickers at sea could also be a source, though this...

In Monday's interview on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) offered his perspective on the sudden shift in the Democratic presidential race, criticizing media pressure on President Joe Biden while holding off on an immediate endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. Sanders, who had previously supported Biden's reelection bid, expressed concern about the media's role in pushing the President out of the race. The Vermont senator's hesitation to immediately endorse Harris stands in contrast to the wave of support she has received from within the Democratic Party. "Vice President Harris has now been endorsed by at least 41...

Two studies may provide hope for patients with irritable bowel syndrome struggling to implement the traditional low-FODMAP diet. In the low-FODMAP diet, patients with IBS restrict their intake of certain carbohydrates (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols), before gradually reintroducing each to determine sensitivity. In the first study, participants started on the traditional low-FODMAP restriction diet, but then had different FODMAP foods reintroduced blindly. The researchers found that patients reacted to an average of two FODMAPs. The data also suggested that individual FODMAPs alone could cause symptoms—as opposed to all the FODMAPs at once. The most significant, finding however, was...

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. The condition occurs when cells in the eye that help you see (called retinal ganglion cells) start to die. The main risk factors for glaucoma are high eye pressure and older age. Currently, all licensed treatments are designed to lower pressure in the eye—also known as intraocular pressure. However, some patients still continue to lose their sight following treatment. To help doctors better understand who will lose their vision faster, the study asked whether mitochondrial function, measured in white blood cells, is lower in people with glaucoma than those without glaucoma...

New research shows combined use of sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) is likely to offer additional protection against heart and kidney disease in patients with diabetes. SGLT2is, also called gliflozins, are a class of drug that lower blood glucose by increasing its excretion in the urine, while GLP-1RAs, such as Ozempic, work by enhancing insulin release and sensitivity. Both classes of medicine have each been shown to improve cardiovascular outcomes. Although small, relatively short-term trials have suggested using these medicines together improves blood glucose control, their combined effects on heart disease and kidney...

A synthetic opioid described as 'fentanyl on steroids' was seized in a Florida drug bust, according to police. West Palm Beach police confiscated $1.6 million worth of N-Desethyl Isotonitazene - known as ISO - during a raid, reported WPBF. Authorities discovered the deadly drug in powder, pill and brick form while executing search warrants on a home and a storage unit earlier in July. '[The substances] came back as 50 times more potent than normal fentanyl that we normally deal with,' Lt. Joe Herb said. 'Fentanyl is normally very dangerous. Now, we're talking about 50 times stronger.' Police said the...

For the first time, scientists have demonstrated how a specific protein increases in our organs as we get older and actively promotes the aging process. By blocking this activity, it could not only help us live longer, but slow the physical decline that is, right now, an inevitable part of aging. Researchers at Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore have previously undertaken three different studies to examine interleukin-11 (IL-11) protein expression and its role in heart and kidney, liver and lung health. The lattermost research has led to an experimental anti-IL-11 therapy that's currently in clinical trials to treat fibrotic lung...

A wild conspiracy theory has started swirling on social media over claims that President Biden did not sign his resignation letter. The 81-year-old released announced he was standing down from his presidential race by sharing a letter to his social media on Sunday afternoon. Speculation has since started to grow, with conspiracy theorists poring over its authenticity, with some believing he never actually signed the letter himself. His signature on the letter shared on Sunday show his name being underlined, which according to some commentators he has never done before. Billionaire Bill Ackman has been one of those sharing the...

Where is President BidenThe events of the past ten days in American politics have been nothing less than extraordinary. President Donald Trump was nearly assassinated. At that time,he was factually the presumptive nominee being within 48 hours of becoming the confirmed nomination of the Republican Party. The apparently, at best completely lax security at a high risk event with a high profile target, has lead to calls for investigation, and as I write this, the director of secret service is expected to appear in front the House of Representatives Oversight Committe to face questions on exactly what happened. Simultaneously, the...

NATIONAL PENUCHE FUDGE DAY National Penuche Fudge Day on July 22 recognizes the creamy candy with an Italian name. If you like maple flavor, this nut-filled fudge is for you! Hands down the best fudge out there to make. #NationalPenucheFudgeDay Penuche is pronounced pe-new-chee and is said to have Portugal origins, becoming popular in New England during the 1700s among Portuguese whaling families. This sweet treat is considered the oldest fudge ever created. This fudge-like candy includes brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk. Some people add pecans or other nuts, especially if making a candy in the form of penuche....

New research has uncovered that sleep can be detected by brief, millisecond-long brain activity, highlighting that individual brain regions can independently switch between sleep and wake states, which could impact the understanding of neurological diseases. =================================================================== The study broadly reveals how fast brain waves, previously overlooked, establish fundamental patterns of sleep and wakefulness. Scientists have developed a new method to analyze sleep and wake states by detecting ultra-fast neuronal activity patterns, just milliseconds long, challenging traditional understandings based on slower brain waves. This research also uncovered that individual brain regions can briefly transition between sleep and wake independently, revealing complex,...

The American Cancer Society reports lower overall cancer death rates, yet incidence is increasing for many common cancers, including 6 of the top 10. ... What might be most striking about the rising incidence is that it’s affecting increasingly younger people. Cancer patients are getting younger. Cancer risk increases with age, and people most likely to be diagnosed with cancer are adults age 65 and older. But this trend is beginning to change. People age 65 and older (sometimes referred to as older adults) represent a growing proportion of the overall population, but their numbers are shrinking in the proportion...

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was "crazy as a bedbug" and has accused her of turning on President Joe Biden "like a dog." More than an hour into his speech at a campaign event in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday—his first rally since last Saturday's attempt on his life—Trump dubbed Pelosi "Crazy Nancy" and said she is "selling out" Biden. **SNIP** "She's [Kamala Harris] not as crazy as Nancy Pelosi, Crazy Nancy. Did you see Nancy Pelosi is selling out Biden now? Did you see?" he said. "She turned on him like a dog....

If you are a Trump-hating Democrat, you are probably having trouble separating your nightmares from reality. After all, the Republicans just had a wildly successful convention while your party is forming circular firing squads. Worst of all, Joe Biden has picked a terrible time to throw a hissy fit, making it impossible to know who will be your party’s presidential nominee. Consider two reports circulating Friday: One says Biden is “in it to win it” and sees a path to victory, the other insists he and his family are discussing his imminent withdrawal. At this point, it’s not clear which...

Thousand of Donald Trump supporters descended on Grand Rapids, MI on Saturday for the first campaign rally of the former president since the failed assassination attempt one week ago in Butler, PA. Crowds of Trump loyalists started lining up in downtown early in the morning and by early afternoon, the line to get into the event spanned multiple city blocks as people came from all over Michigan and out of state to see the Republican presidential nominee speak. Security for the rally was intense outside the Van Andel Arena. Dump trucks blocked off streets around the venue while fencing had...

Pass the Torch, a new grassroots group calling for Biden to step out of the 2024 presidential race, held a rally outside the White House on Saturday. “Thank you, Joe; it’s time to go!” the group chanted outside the gates. Organizers say approximately 100 people were in attendance. President Biden has faced intense pressure from members of his own party to forfeit the Democratic nomination since his disastrous debate performance at the end of June. As of Saturday, 35 Democrats have publicly called for Biden to step aside. In a statement issued before the rally, Pass the Torch explained their...

No one wants their geographic region to be associated with a deadly disease. Unfortunately, this has happened in the past with diseases such as “German measles,” “Spanish flu” and “Asiatic cholera.” It happens today, too, even though the World Health Organization advises against naming pathogens for places to “minimize unnecessary negative effects on nations, economies and people.” By Feb. 11, 2020, the WHO had announced that the official name for the novel coronavirus just starting its spread around the world would be severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 – or SARS-CoV-2. The illness it caused would be called COVID-19, short...

A campaign group made up of Democrats urging Joe Biden to stand down from November's election has released a new 30-second campaign advert arguing the president needs to step aside to "save democracy." The video was released by Pass the Torch, Joe, a group that says Republican nominee Donald Trump is "an existential threat" meaning "we need the strongest possible ticket to maximize our chances of defeating him." Concern about the age and mental capacity of 81-year-old Biden went into fever pitch following his first presidential debate against Trump on June 27, during which the Democratic incumbent at several points...
