Authorities in Pennsylvania are pushing back against an initial judgement from the Trump administration suggesting that a shooting in Harrisburg was rooted in terrorism. Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marco said Thursday that gunman Ahmed Amin El-Mofty, who was killed by police officers after he opened fired on authorities in the state’s capital last week, had no known ties to any terror groups, Penn Live reported. Family previously told investigators El-Mofty was depressed about money problems and relationships with his loved ones. Pennsylvania State Police suspect he acted alone during the Dec. 22 shooting, which left a state trooper injured....

"The acts of Friday night go against any sense of mercy," the statement reads. "We, the Central PA Muslim Community, are absolutely horrified and sickened by the targeting of those who serve to protect us each day. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us."

The Department of Homeland Security referred to the three shootings in Harrisburg on Friday as "a terror attack." Tyler Q. Houlton, acting press secretary for agency, tweeted a statement Saturday about the incidents. Houlton said that Ahmed El-Mofty was a naturalized U.S. citizen who was admitted to the country from Egypt on a family-based immigration visa. "The long chain of migration that led to the suspect's admission into the United States was initiated years ago by a distant relative of the suspect," Houlton said in a release. The Department of Homeland Security said chain migration is the common element in two cases allegedly tied to terrorism activities, according to a statement released Saturday. Hours after three shootings resulted in a trooper shot and the suspect killed, police have released additional details about the shooter. Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico identified the shooter as 51-year-old Ahmed Aminamin El-Mofty at a news conference late Friday night. Though details about El-Mofty are being unraveled by investigators, Marsico said it "certainly appears that there's no doubt" he was targeting police officers....
