A Cheektowaga teenager, a whiz kid on the computer, has been arrested in Los Angeles and accused of bombarding Internet users with more than a million spam e-mails. Not only is the 18-year-old accused of computer hacking and violating federal spam laws, but he allegedly threatened to wreak more havoc on a California Internet company if it didn't give him exclusive marketing rights to its customers, federal authorities said. Anthony Greco, a former Erie Community College student, is accused of creating thousands of accounts on MySpace.com, an online meeting place, and using them to send about 1.5 million unsolicited commercial...

Michigan Firm Won't Allow Smoking, Even On Employee's Own Time LANSING, Mich. -- A Michigan health care company has fired four of its employees for refusing to take a test to determine whether they smoke cigarettes. The company enacted a new policy this month, allowing workers to be fired if they smoke, even if the smoking takes place after-hours, or at home. The founder of Weyco Inc. said the company doesn't want to pay the higher health care costs associated with smoking. An official of the company -- which administers health benefits -- estimated that 18 to 20 of its...

Vatican City, Vatican City, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- An article in a leading Roman Catholic journal signals that the Vatican may join the public health establishment's crusade against cigarette smoking. The latest edition of the scholarly publication Civilta Cattolica, published by the Jesuits and approved by a top aide to Pope John Paul II, says smokers cannot damage their own health and that of others "without moral responsibility." The article by Giuseppe de Rosa stops short of calling smoking a sin, but says lighting up is "not neutral either in social or indeed moral terms." De Rosa's views, and presumably...

Spanish police have arrested a man suspected of creating a Trojan capable of making secret recordings of Internet users through their webcams and stealing confidential information. Spanish Civil Guard units caught the computer programmer, identified only by the initials J.A.S, spying on various Net users through their webcams when they surprised him in his home on Monday. The man is alleged to have created a Trojan horse program distributed through peer-to-peer file sharing networks, like Kazaa. The Trojan horse could be hidden in a file, and once downloaded gave the hacker remote access to the victim's computer. The Trojan installed...

True, pro-Bush bloggers may have been more suspicious than those who think Bush spends his days leashed and curled at Karl Rove's feet -- but they were right, and that's what counted in the end. If partisanship made some unusually suspicious, might it also have made others unduly credulous? Naaah. There's no evidence the critics were right, you know. The CBS report can't bring itself, even now, to say the documents were unquestionably bogus. Rather himself told the investigating panel that "no one had provided persuasive evidence that the documents were not authentic." This is like floating in the North...

Considering the hits we keep taking in our global fight against terrorism, I’m gearing up in ‘05 to go up against the Pentagon’s increasingly out-of-control campaign to keep us all conned. The cover-ups track too often with more names added to the U.S. casualty list. So here's my New Year’s resolution: to keep countering Pentagon lies with the truth until enough concerned citizens demand that Congress set up a congressional investigative arm to formally expose the liars and hold them accountable. For almost six decades, I’ve borne witness to scuzzy machinations that had little or nothing to do with America’s...

Feinstein wants end to Electoral College Senator says she'll seek constitutional amendment - Edward Epstein, Chronicle Washington Bureau Thursday, December 23, 2004 Washington -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Wednesday that when Congress returns in January, she will propose a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College and replace it with a one-person, one-vote system for electing the nation's president and vice president. ..... "The Electoral College is an anachronism, and the time has come to bring our democracy into the 21st century," Feinstein said in a statement.

Asked about the election result, the sharp-tongued reporter simply put her hand on her face and said, "My God, the man is a fascist -- a fascist, I tell you." She warned that Bush's victory will mean one thing: more war. She expects Iran to be next. But surely Thomas, a female reporter who succeeded decades ago in a "man's world," had some empathy about Condi's appointment. As we suggested the notion, a look of horror came over Thomas' face. "I tell you, the women is a monster, a monster, a monster," she kept saying.......

He cried out against stem cells because he said they are sinful. You are taking a life to perhaps save a life, he says. He sees armies of women having babies and then chopping them up like chickens for the stem cells. He is opposed to embryonic stem cells, which come from a fetus that has been fertilized in vitro. His wife says the stem cells couldn't save her father from Alzheimer's, which means nobody should have them. They get their views from a Dust-Bowl Bible left by Elmer Gantry. Fifty years from now, people will look back on this...

I just watched that hack Bob Shieffer try and deflect criticism for the sorry picture posted on Drudge of Terrrrrreza Hienz quaffing beer at a recent rally. She looked drunk. Good ole Bob claimed "Why don't politicians let it all hang out once in awhile, it may do everyone some good." Sad sack.....

As the Presidential Elections in the US draw closer, Hollywood stars' "Bush-Bashing" brigade seems to be expanding endlessly, with Melanie Griffith being the latest addition. According to the New York Post, Griffith has reportedly posted her anti- Bush views on her website, and has criticized Bush on numerous fronts. "I am a full-blown Democrat. I always have been. I did visit President George Bush Sr. [sic] and his wife when they were in the White House. However, I feel their son is in there without truly having won the election. I think he is a C-minus president. Don't you have...

Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi’s web site has been hacked. This is the same web site that contained the videos of Eugene Armstrong, Jack Hensley, Kenneth Bigley and Kim Sun Il. The site was hacked by a group calling itself TeAmZ USA with the message of “Host them and your next.” This is the second time that TeAmZ USA has hacked a web site that featured acts of terrorism by terrorists inside of Iraq. The first time was discovered by Rusty Shackleford. Al Jazeera should be next. Any form of propoganda that is used in the purpose of killing our soldiers that...

Joe S is engaging in fear mongering regarding the deficit. He just said that W took a record surplus (no mention that the surplus was an illusion brought on by the bubble economy) and turned it into record deficits. He is unmistakably trying to drive done W's support with his base. Now he has Buchanan on making the anti-Republican case too. Scarborough is such a nut. One minute he praises reagan (who had larger deficits than Bush does) and then he lights into Bush. This is insane. He is an incoherent jerk.

The Vietnam War rages on. Witness the barrages being fired by Viet vets on the right and the left: "George W. Bush is a draft-dodger"; "John F. Kerry isn't a war hero." Once again, that tragic war divides America – and this time around, it's vet pitted against vet. Sure, Bush dodged the draft, along with a reported 14 million other Americans with the savvy to work out that Vietnam was a no-win, sorry war. But although he had the luck and the connections to land a spot in the Air Guard, he did put his butt on the line...
