I went to the grocery store yesterday and found roast beef for $6/lb. Two weeks ago, it was $16. Heck, when I started working in a deli in 1991, it was $8. Milk for $3.19/gallon? Sharp cheddar cheese for $3.78/pound? Cream cheese for $2.26/half pound? Butter for $2.98/pound? Chicken breast for $1.99? I've been going to Aldi's lately, so I don't know exactly how to compare to before my days of shopping Safeway online since the grocery stores shut down for the pandemic, but these prices seem pre-pandemic to me. My sister reports that where she's from, so much of...

Stocks, bonds, gold and bitcoin — pretty much everything but the U.S. dollar — soared Friday when Fed Chair Jerome Powell not only declared that the time has come for policy to adjust but that further increases in the unemployment rate would be unwelcome. Markets looked set for a calmer session Monday, a period of tranquillity that may run until Nvidia reports its results on Wednesday. In the meantime, it’s worth looking at food prices, which have become a potent political issue in the presidential campaign. Vice President Kamala Harris outlined a plan, still lacking many concrete details, that would...

Bidenomics = High mortgage rates, high inflation rates, collapsed banks, expensive groceries, record high rent, and dwindling retirement accounts. The Federal Reserve on Wednesday paused rate hikes. The Fed kept the benchmark rate in the range of 5.25% to 5.50%. For now. “We’re prepared to raise rates further, if appropriate, and we intend to hold policy at a restrictive level until we’re confident that inflation is moving down sustainably toward our objective,” Chairman Jerome Powell told reporters on Wednesday. ... Despite what Jerome Powell said, inflation is not cooling. The Biden Regime relies on lies and voodoo math when it...

The Biden administration’s massive expansion of food stamp benefits is linked to at least a 15% rise in grocery prices, a new study said on Thursday. President Biden’s Department of Agriculture rolled out revised nutritional standards for federal food benefits in 2021 that expanded the program by roughly 25% from pre-COVID pandemic levels. Overall spending on the Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program (SNAP) more than doubled between 2019 and 2022, according to findings from the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) previewed by Fox News Digital. It went from $4.5 billion in 2019 to $11 billion in 2022, the study said.

The price of food at home rose 1.3% from June to July, marking a 13.1% increase compared to last year. It was the largest price increase for groceries since 1979, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Food, however, rose by 1.1% on the month and 10.9% this year. It was the seventh consecutive month where the price rose by 0.9% and above. Dining out rose by 0.7% in July on the month and 7.6% compared to last year. Among groceries, egg prices had the biggest increase. Their cost rose by 4.3% in the month of July, and 38%...

In early March, Tucker Carlson invited Iowa Corn and soybean farmer Ben Riensche on his top-rated program to discuss the massive inflation we are about to see in food prices here at home. According to Rienshe, grocery prices may increase up to $1,000 per month due to Russia’s sanctions on fertilizer. ... “It’s embarrassing how little most people know about fertilizer, what it means, tell us the implications of this sanction?” Carlson asked. .... Soaring fertilizer prices are likely to spike food prices,” Riensche said. “If you’re upset that gas is up a dollar or two a gallon, wait until...

Let me begin this DUFU edition with a blatant self-plug but, as I shall demonstrate, it actually does have to do with the DUFUs. First the blatant plug: My FIRST Kindle article, HOW TO EARN MONEY AT NASCAR RACES, is now available online. It is about how NASCAR fans can earn money while scoring cheap tickets at the NASCAR races. Based on my experiences of following the NASCAR circuit for two full seasons and parts of several more. As I mentioned in the article, I tested out one of the techniques provided in the article just a few weeks...

Buy Your Chicken NOW! December 15, 2008 A friend of mine in management at a local chicken processing plant says; Tyson Chicken Plant is concerned about the price of chicken being too low. So they are destroying 100,000 eggs a day for the next 5 days, that are due to hatch within three days. Employees of the plant asked for the company to allow the eggs to hatch and let the workers take the baby chicks home, but the managers said no, and that two other large corporations were doing the same. I can't reveal the source for obvious reasons....

Prices shouldn't be set by supply and demand. They should be determined by, well, what prices "should" be. That's the innovative theory Maggie Rodriguez propounded on today's Early Show. The Early Show anchor's unique take on economics came in the course of a segment on the falling price of gasoline. Rodriguez lamented to co-anchor Chris Wragge that grocery prices weren't falling along with gas prices. In Maggie's view, grocers who set prices based on demand rather than on what prices "should" be are the culprits. View video here.
