If it is a cheap way to get course credit towards degrees, that's worthwhile. It is important that the accreditation folks do not have a stranglehold. That is a tool to force colleges and universities to implement DEI. Of course, the risk is that this project will suffer the same fate.

I don’t know what form this plan will take but this could be promising.

We need a modern equivalent of “McGuffy’s Readers” and “Ray’s Arithmetic”. Get everyone learning reading, math, history, science in a homogeneous way with no political indoctrination. Set it up correctly, and it ought to be good for decades — math doesn’t change. Reading doesn’t change.

Education should not be an “industry” where people make tons of money from new textbooks, and new curriculum, and new standards, and everything else. We just want our kids to be able to succeed in the world. Right now, they are being short-changed.

Instead of credit for past coursework, why not create and offer free examinations to demonstrate knowledge and make those examinations the standard of education?

Make the goal of education the actual accumulation of knowledge, know-how, and wisdom instead of course credit.

Public education more or less worked prior to the Vietnam War. Then the Leftist Bacillus escaping the draft infected the system and never left.

It’s interesting. I can’t say for sure that these 2 things are related (I think they are) but up into the 1950s, America was clearly the best in science. We did the Manhattan project, breaking the speed of sound, transistors, everything. Our economy and our scientists were the best on the planet.

Then the Soviets launched Sputnik.

America “panicked” and decided we needed to totally revamp our education systems and “emphasize” math and science so that young kids could grow up and build the Space Age.

And our schools have been going downhill ever since. Almost like it was on purpose.

Yes and we have Khan Academy which is pretty good. We have Wikipedia which has been taken over by leftism. I took a free course from University of MI on Python programming and the gay professor giggles while joking about “early and often” which references dem election fraud.

What else is there online for free learning that’s not woke leftism? If there are good sources, google will make sure you won’t find it.

“Uh, “The Internet” already exists ...”

But he is talking about a focused, guided, and evidently credentialing effort.

Creating the Department of Education has been the greatest accelerant in the decline of education.

Had to take a bunch of crap courses to get my degree totally unrelated to my degree. Needed English 101 like I needed a hole in the head.

So 60 credits for a Bachelors could maybe be reduced to 40-45 credits.

Well said! I know teachers who were forced to teach nonsense, who told their students that although they ahd to teach it, that the students should question what is being taught and research alternative ideas on issues. The teachers even said that while they were forced to teach ccimate change and things like evolution, they personally didn’t beleive it and encouraged students to question it as well. Those teachers were walking a fine line, but they knew the risk and accepted it. Thankfully they were in a conservative enough area that they were able to keep, teaching for years. The kids learned not to just take a textbooks word for soemthing.

I went to a one room school in the late 40’s-into the 50’s.

I knew more after 8th grade than most high school graduates do today.
