The Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete (First Day of Lent)
Today is the first day of Lent for Orthodox Christians. During Clean Week there are many special services of which one of the most important is The Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete, also known as The Great Canon of Repentance. It is a penitential hymn, the longest ever composed, that is chanted in monasteries on Clean Monday.
