The Supreme Court of Canada ruled in 2010 that the actions of federal officials who participated in U.S. interrogations of Mr. Khadr had offended “the most basic Canadian...

A former inmate of the Guantanamo prison camp, returned to Canada in 2015 and then released, will get $10 million from the Canadian government and an apology. Omar Khadr, the son of a known al-Qaeda terrorist leader, was captured after a firefight in Afghanistan where he threw a grenade killing a US medic and wounding others. These facts are not in dispute. Khadr pleaded guilty to the charges but claimed he was a "child soldier" forced to fight by his father. Khadr's lawyer says his client was tortured by the US while he was at Guantanamo, suffering from sleep...

Canada is saying that they are very, very sorry to Omar Khadr. They’re so sorry in fact, they’re giving him more than $10 million. See, Khadr – who was picked up by American forces in Afghanistan, suspected of being a terrorist and shipped off to Guantanamo Bay – was interrogated under “oppressive circumstances” by Canadian intelligence officials. Khadr – who is Canadian born – was only 15 years old when he was captured in a firefight at an al-Qaeda compound in Afghanistan. The firefight resulted in the death of special forces medic U.S. Army Sgt. Christopher Speer. Khadr was suspected...

The Canadian government will apologize and give millions to a former Guantanamo Bay prisoner who pleaded guilty to killing a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan when he was 15, an official said Tuesday. An official familiar with the matter told the Associated Press that Omar Khadr will receive $8 million. The deal was negotiated with Khadr’s lawyers and the Canadian government last month.

It's an expensive thorn-in-the-side to the Castro regime. The moozlem prisoners cost a million bucks apiece per year to incarcerate. Rent is $5k/yr. I say turn it into a penal colony and staff it with foreign guards, including Cubans. Put those land mines back into place that Bill Clinton removed without reciprocation-the Cubans have their own mines still there. Prisoners can be the illegals(ms-13 types) waiting to finish out there terms in the continental US. Bring the navy ships and their families back home. Trump can thereby DEAL with the next Government for total withdrawal. The moozlems? Build the same...

A military judge on Friday dismissed two relatively minor charges against the five prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention center who have been accused of orchestrating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Army Col. James Pohl accepted a defense argument that the five-year statute of limitations had run out on two non-capital charges: attacking civilian objects and destruction of property.

An airstrike authorized by the Trump administration against an al Queda outpost in Yemen has killed a former detainee from the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba who was released in 2009."We can confirm the death of a former Guantanamo Bay detainee, Yasir al Silmi," said Navy Captain Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman. This means that President Donald Trump has killed a foreign combatant that was released under the authority of Barack Obama. . .

Last week President Trump tweeted out that 122 vicious Gitmo prisoners released by Obama have returned to the battlefield. 122 vicious prisoners, released by the Obama Administration from Gitmo, have returned to the battlefield. Just another terrible decision! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 7, 2017 The liberal mainstream media immediately began their attacks on the current president because the 122 number includes terrorists released during the Obama and Bush years. So there is no proof that 122 Gitmo prisoners released by Obama have returned to a life of terror – yet. But the total number of Gitmo prisoners who...

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a report on Tuesday finding that 121 of the 714 Guantanamo Bay detainees released from the military prison over the past 15 years have reengaged in terrorism. An overwhelming majority of the men who recidivated were transferred under former President George W. Bush, who created the prison in 2002 following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. According to the DNI, 113 of the former detainees released under the Bush administration are "confirmed" to have reengaged in militant activity while just eight transferred under the Obama administration have returned to terrorism. The...

An ISIS suicide bomber in Iraq who detonated a truck bomb at an army base outside Mosul has been identified as a British citizen who was held at the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo, Cuba. Ronald Fiddler, also known as Jamal al-Harith after he converted to Islam in the 1990s, was captured in a Taliban prison in 2002. He was suspected of having links to Osama bin Laden and was transferred to Guantanamo. Al-Harith claimed he was mistreated at the prison camp and that British agents were complicit. He was transferred back to the U.K. in 2004 and was awarded a million...

The Islamic State group on Monday claimed responsibility for a suicide attack near Mosul it said was carried out by a British suicide bomber, the SITE Intelligence Group reported. “The martyrdom-seeking brother Abu Zakariya al-Britani — may Allah accept him — detonated his explosives-laden vehicle on a headquarters of the Rafidhi army and its militias in Tal Kisum village, southwest of Mosul,” the claim quoted by SITE said. The ISIS statement did not say when the bombing occurred. Abu Zakariya al-Britani was identified by BBC as Ronald Fiddler, a Brit who was seized by US forces in Afghanistan and taken...

A career civil servant with that kind of money ought to be surprising, especially in lieu of his subsequent outreach efforts to proven Muslim Brotherhood outfits. UPDATE: During the years when Republicans controlled the levers of power, Johnson worked for a law firm that represented the Guantanamo Bay detainees — very vigorously. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison attorneys went so far as to smuggle in materials to the detainees. “If I’d gotten caught passing war news to detainees,” one former DOD official said, “my security clearance would have been pulled.” This week has seen the release of many incriminating...

The White House is finishing an executive order that would instruct the Pentagon to send Islamic State detainees to Guantanamo Bay. The Obama administration notably refused to send ISIS fighters captured in the fight to the detention facility, but for President Donald Trump, it’s imperative to take high-level radical Islamic terrorists out of the fight, The New York Times reports. For some, the order could function as a de facto tripwire because it could allow federal judges to rule on whether the war against ISIS is actually legal, since Congress has declined to offer any explicit authorization. Instead, the Obama...

A number of Arabic and Pashtu interpreters at the terror-war detention center at Guantanamo Bay are under active investigation for omitting valuable intelligence from their translations of detainee interrogations, among other security breaches. This could taint some of the evidence at the "9/11 trial" in New York and proceedings against other detainees. Remarkably, the Pentagon never cleaned up the "mole infestation" at its highest-security facility after the FBI busted a Muslim spy ring at Gitmo in 2003. The 2003 probe involved at least two Arabic interpreters with high-level security clearance. Senior Airman Ahmad al-Halabi, a Syrian native, and former Army...

Pesident Donald Trump is reportedly considering signing an executive order that would direct the Pentagon to continue using the U.S. military prison in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba “for the detention and trial of newly captured” detainees linked to al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and Islamic State. The New York Times (NYT) claimed to have obtained the Trump administration’s three-page draft executive order, titled “Detention and Interrogation of Enemy Combatants.” It “would also undo many of the other restrictions on handling detainees that Mr. Obama put in place in response to policies of the Bush administration.” “The draft order does not direct any immediate...

"ACLJ Obtains Documents on Eve of President Obama Leaving Office Showing Collusion with the Clinton Foundation on Attempted Closure of GITMO" Last night, less than 24 hours before President Obama left office, we obtained critical documents exposing collusion between President Obama’s State Department, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s senior staff, and the Clinton Foundation on the closure of the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GITMO). As we explained before: Our friends at Judicial Watch uncovered key emails that showed requests for special treatment. Our FOIA requests take the next step: What happened next? Here’s a summary of what...

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz introduced a bill on Tuesday that would declassify information about the terrorist activities of detainees at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba who have been released or transferred since Election Day. The move came after a report that the Obama administration recently struck a deal with Oman to transfer 10 detainees from Gitmo. The move brings the total number of detainees down to less than 50. Cruz and other Republicans have been heavily critical of Obama’s transfers and of his promise to close the facility before leaving office. Republicans point to a statistic that 30 percent...

The White House said Tuesday that the Guantánamo Bay detention center in Cuba will still be open when President Barack Obama leaves office, conceding that a core campaign promise will go unfulfilled. Administration officials had long insisted that the president was continuing to work toward closing the facility even when it became obvious that it would no longer be possible for practical reasons before President-elect Donald Trump takes office Friday. White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters that the administration determined it wouldn’t happen when they realized they did not have enough time left to comply with the 30-day deadline...

President Barack Obama transferred 10 additional inmates Monday out of Guantanamo bay to Oman, in a blatant rebuke of President-elect Donald Trump’s intended policies. Omani media confirmed the transfer, but neither the U.S. nor Omani authorities will confirm the identities of the detainees. “At the request of Sultan Qaboos and the US government for a solution to the question of Guantánamo detainees, 10 of these detainees arrived today in the sultanate to reside here temporarily,” Oman’s government said in a statement.
