  • Tancredo, Gessler & Kopp look to harness anti-establishment fever after Cantor loss

With precious days left to sway primary voters, three of the four Colorado Republicans seeking their party’s gubernatorial nomination are aligning themselves with the anti-establishment wave that just toppled the second most powerful Republican in the U.S. House, majority leader Eric Cantor. After Cantor lost his seat Tuesday night to a virtually unknown professor, Dave Brat, due to strong support from anti-Cantor forces within conservative talk radio and beyond, Tom Tancredo, Scott Gessler and Mike Kopp openly celebrated. “If I were a drinking man, I’d have been drunk last night.

It’s another Tuesday and time for the latest version of the weekly Littwin GOP Guv Rankings. And the internal polls that I’ve been told about all say the same thing — that Tom Tancredo is ahead of the pack, maybe 10 points ahead. And, coincidentally, he leads the Littwin rankings, too. That shows at least two things — that Tancredo’s name value works in a four-way race and that no one else’s, to this point, does. To the rankings (last week’s ranking in parentheses): 1. (1) Tancredo. How’s he done it? Well, by avoiding debates. By refusing entreaties to get...

Gov. John Hickenlooper called Thursday for a focus on bipartisanship in the 2014 legislative session, but Republicans can be forgiven for greeting his proposal with a certain skepticism. The 2013 legislative session, often described as the most liberal in state history, may have also been the most partisan. Democrats pushed through major legislation with no Republican votes on a half-dozen fronts, including election reform, gun control, education funding, and the rural renewable-energy standard. “It would be lovely if he behaved in a bipartisan manner, but that’s not what we saw last year,” said state Sen. Greg Brophy (R-Wray... ... This...

If Veronica became a citizen in September 2011, what was she doing donating to Colorado Democrats for the year preceding that? [...] A quick check of donation records in Colorado turns up at least four donations made before she was a legal citizen. Her voter registration is under the name Veronica Fleischer. When liberals put up someone to complain about Gessler's attempts to clean up the voter rolls, maybe they shouldn't push a person who has already violated election laws?

A Virginia lawyer has been accused of possessing and producing child pornography. Joshua Gessler, 41, of McLean, was arrested this month after an investigation that began in May, Fairfax County police said Tuesday. He was charged with five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of production of child pornography. Police allege that Gessler met a 15-year-old Centreville girl who had run away, took sexual photos of her and transmitted them electronically. Gessler was an associate in Arnold & Porter's Northern Virginia office and focused on corporate and securities cases, according to his biography on the firm's Web...
