The Bible reveals “God is the King of all the earth…He reigns over the nations; He sits on His holy throne” (Psa 47:7-8). It is God “who changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and establishes kings” (Dan 2:21), and “the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, and bestows it on whom He wishes and sets over it the lowliest of men” (Dan 4:17). The Bible reveals “The LORD is King forever and ever” (Psa 10:16a), and the “LORD has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all” (Psa 103:19), and...

Question: "What is the meaning of the Parable of the Wedding Feast?" Answer: Jesus told the Parable of the Wedding Feast in Matthew 22:1-14. This parable is similar in some ways to the Parable of the Great Banquet (Luke 14:15-24), but the occasion is different, and it has some important distinctions. To better understand the context of this story, it is important to know some basic facts about weddings in Jesus’ day. In Jewish society, the parents of the betrothed generally drew up the marriage contract. The bride and groom would meet, perhaps for the first time, when this contract...

And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod. When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the...

As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved. And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord...

While reading the Gospels, we can encounter passages which puzzle us. One such passage concerns a statement made by Jesus in response to questions on the part of his disciples concerning the destruction of the Jewish Temple and the end of the age (Luke 21:5-7). For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. And they will fall by the edge of...

“The consensus in the general Jewish public in Israel is widespread and against renting or selling homes to Arabs, but whoever dares express is faces aggression,” he said. “There is a public sentiment preventing us from saying what we believe, that we love the Land of Israel, that we are Zionists and prefer our Jewish brethren over Arabs, that we are proud in the national home for the Jewish people in Israel.” SINCE TUESDAY, when the rabbis’ letter became public, some 200 additional rabbis – serving as educators or neighborhood rabbis – have signed a very similar statement circulated by...

...Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any...

You will often hear Jews say, with pride, that Judaism rejects a missionary or evangelizing stance. This is true in the narrow sense that Jews do not pursue converts to Judaism, but it is deeply misleading in another. The German Orthodox rabbi, polemicist, and scriptural expositor Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch (1808–1888), a towering figure in modern Jewish thought, taught insistently that God brought the “Abrahamitic nation” onto the stage of history for “the salvation of the world through Judaism.” As he wrote in his Torah commentary, this was to be accomplished “by example and admonition,” with the Jews as “God’s...

In light of contemporary political and social and religious conditions in the United States, I want to look at Psalm 2. Psalm 2 is not only a Messianic Psalm, but also a prophetic warning to the Gentile nations to serve the LORD Jesus Christ in the Church Age. The context is the Gentiles nations, not Israel. Psalm 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. 1. “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh:…”

The University of Phoenix will pay nearly $1.9 million to settle a religious discrimination lawsuit. The school admitted no wrongdoing in the matter. The suit, filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, alleged that the private university discriminated against enrollment counselors who were not associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The suit also alleged that non-Mormon counselors were given fewer student recruiting leads and more reprimands. The EEOC said 52 counselors will be paid as part of Monday’s settlement. The university agreed to adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward religious discrimination and hire a diversity officer....

The Jerusalem Conference of Acts 15: What Was Decided? Some people believe that the early Church's decision in Acts 15 freed Christians from the need to obey the laws revealed in the Old Testament. But is this the case? To understand what was really decided there, we need to look at and understand the historical, cultural and scriptural background. From the beginning of gentile conversions, "certain men . . . from Judea" insisted that "unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved" (Acts 15:1). Notice that they viewed circumcision as a matter of salvation. It was...

The Universal King January 7, 2007 Up ‘til now, all has been quite humble. A donkey ride to a dusty town south of Jerusalem. Hotel rooms all booked up. Giving birth in a stable and laying the baby in an animal's feed trough instead of a cozy cradle.Into this scene of obscure poverty suddenly bursts an exotic entourage from a far-off land. Dignitaries in sumptuous dress lavish the newborn with expensive gifts that seem out of place in the humble surroundings. This event is so significant that it is accorded its own feast in the Roman liturgy, celebrated traditionally on...

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: Ephesians 4:17-21 When meeting...

Israeli stereotypes of American Jews tend to center on the wealth and hedonism of their cousins across the ocean. It turns out that non-Jews here in America tend to feel the same way. Apparently non-Jewish adolescents in the United States are increasingly afflicted with a new problem: bat- and bar-mitzva envy. Laugh all you like, but this curious trend was the subject of a front-page article in The Wall Street Journal on January 14. In it, Journal staffer Elizabeth Bernstein reported that upscale non-Jewish kids are bummed out about the lavish parties their Jewish classmates are getting – and want...
