You will often hear Jews say, with pride, that Judaism rejects a missionary or evangelizing stance. This is true in the narrow sense that Jews do not pursue converts to Judaism, but it is deeply misleading in another. The German Orthodox rabbi, polemicist, and scriptural expositor Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch (18081888), a towering figure in modern Jewish thought, taught insistently that God brought the Abrahamitic nation onto the stage of history for the salvation of the world through Judaism. As he wrote in his Torah commentary, this was to be accomplished by example and admonition, with the Jews as Gods messengers on earth (on Genesis 12:1, 11:8, 18:1719). In Orthodox Judaism today, Hirsch remains a household name. But the most important aspect of his legacy, which deserves urgent practical consideration by the Jewish community, is insufficiently appreciated.
A range of Orthodox communities claim Hirschs mantle. One often hears the Hirschean worldview invoked. Modern Orthodox thinkers cite his philosophy of Torah im Derech Eretz (Torah with the Way of the World) as giving a Torah imprimatur to secular education. Hirschs pioneering study of the roots of Hebrew words is also well regarded. But Hirschs thought extends far beyond his contributions as an educational theorist and etymologist. He illuminated a cultural crisis of which he saw only the beginnings. That crisis, in Hirschs own term, is that of the Western world sunk in materialism (on Exodus 6:3).

Pinging some of the usual suspects.
Thanks for posting. Good article!
The Jews will again have the responsibility for evangelizing the world during the Great Tribulation. Specifically, 144,000 will be chosen to spread the Gospel during this time; with the Christians having been previously raptured.
They don't have to wait until then. They are free to come to Christ now and get a head start on that evangelization thing.
And please don't argue theology on this thread. You don't have to agree with the author but please allow him to make his point without adulterating it.
Please put me on your ping list and Baruch HaShem.
Thank you, but I don't have a ping list (I don't know how to set one up). Whenever I ping people I have to type the names in manually.
You want on my weekly Bible readings threads as well?
Here’s something even most Jews don’t necessarily know. The Hebrew God was never meant to be the Lord of anyone except the Jewish people. Jews never thought that their God would be the God of the Greeks or Romans. That is one of the reasons that Jews never proselytized.
In contrast, Jesus Christ was seen by Christians as being the universal God for all peoples and nations.
Deuteronomy 4:19...”And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.”
Malachi 1:11...”For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.”
“Heres something even most Jews dont necessarily know”
I guess you know far more that the us and our sages.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
..................
The first quote from Deuteronomy just says that Yahweh created the world. It says nothing about Yahweh being the God of non-Hebrews or heathens.
The second quote from Malachi just says that the name of Yahweh will be great. It doesn’t say that Yahweh is the God of non-Hebrews or heathen
Sorry, but I read words that are there.
Please give ma a quote in the Torah or Old Testament where it says Yahweh is the God of all people, as opposed to being the God of just the Hebrews or Jews.
That's sheer unadulterated hooey from the atheist "historical critical" school.

Yeah, and how good has that turned out? The chr*stians of the world hate each other based on ethnicity; each chr*stian ethnic group has turned J*sus into its own little national "gxd," and Black and white chr*stians here in the US cancel each other's votes out at every election.
Yeah, chr*stianity sure is universal, all right. [/sarcasm]
Then God spoke all these words. He said, I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you lived as slaves. You shall have no other gods to rival me.[2] Yahweh revealed himself to Israel as a jealous God who would not permit his people to make idols or follow gods of other nations[3] or worship gods known by other names, “I am Yahweh, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, or my praise to idols.”[4] Yahweh demanded the role of the one true God in the hearts and minds of Israel.
Everything is directed toward the Hebrew people. Yahweh never claimed to be the God of the Gentiles. The Gentiles had their own Gods, and the Hebrews were not to have anything to do with them.

Have you ever read the Book of Genesis, where the Jewish G-d is described as creating everything and everyone in the universe?
You are a higher critical troll who doesn't understand Judaism or the covenant between HaShem and Israel in the least ("Y-----" is a name reconstructed by atheist "Bible scholars," btw).
Genesis 1:1 & Deuteronomy 6:4.
If One or Unity means two, or three, or four to you, then that’s what it means...to you.
