Britain Gets Over-Surveillance Warning By Staff Apr 29, 2007 Britain's information commissioner is poised to tell the government it's gone too far with anti-terror video surveillance measures. The Independent reported Sunday that Richard Thomas will warn a parliamentary committee about the "slow social suicide" he claims the country is committing with its video cameras, which number about 4 million, or one for every 14 people. The Home Affairs Select Committee is holding hearings into the expansion of surveillance that includes monitoring microphones being placed in street lamps and offices, the London newspaper said.

Pat Buchanan says illegal immigration from poor and developing countries will overwhelm the United States and other Western countries in the next 50 years unless something is done. "We've already won the battle with the public," Mr. Buchanan tells The Washington Times. "The question is, when will the government respond?" In his book, however, Mr. Buchanan saves his strongest criticism for President Bush, writing: "Concerned about his legacy, George W. Bush may yet live to see his name entered into the history of his country as the president who lost the American Southwest that James K. Polk won for the...

Utah race stirs calls for a deal on immigration After Bush ally scores a victory in GOP primary, one lawmaker pushes comprehensive bill By GEBE MARTINEZ WASHINGTON - With President Bush's immigration policy surviving fierce criticism in a Utah congressional race, lawmakers on both sides of the debate turned their attention Wednesday to finding a compromise on immigration legislation. Those who oppose Bush's call for immigration reform — which includes a guest worker program and legalization opportunities for millions of illegal immigrants along with tougher border security — saw five-term Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, survive a tough primary challenge after...

California may seem the best place to study the impact of illegal immigration on the prospects of American workers. Hordes of immigrants have rushed into the state in the past 25 years, competing for jobs with the least-educated among the native-born population. The wages of high school dropouts in California fell 17 percent from 1980 to 2004. But before concluding that immigrants are undercutting the wages of the least fortunate Americans, perhaps one should consider Ohio. Unlike California, Ohio remains mostly free of illegal immigrants. And what happened to the wages of Ohio's high school dropouts from 1980 to 2004?...

If you want to destroy a political forum then turn it into a conspiracy theories haven. This is exactly what is Democratic Underground known to us as Dummyland. At DU the lefties are running all type of insanely delusional conspiracy theories ranging from election fraud, to Bush is going to kill or imprison every Democrat in the country. On the other hand Free Republic is the best political forum on the internet because the vast majority of posters use logic and facts to express their opinions and comments regarding a particular subject. Unfortunately in the last two months there have...

BEWARE FROBL’s!!! You are being sent this message because you have recently been stung by a FROBL. That would be a Free Republic Open Border Lobbyist. Do not be concerned! Their stingers are so tiny it’s laughable. Which is what makes them so darn pesty and contrary. They make a lot of noise, considering there are only about a dozen of them, and are really quite harmless, unless they are able to zap some unsuspecting victim who has wandered into “their territory”. Now “their territory seems to be, well, whatever they decide it is, usually any thread with people trying...

...HANNITY: Because you had made a controversial statement, and you seem to be backing off of it now, and it was that people that are here illegally, that they all ought to be sent back. I'm paraphrasing. And it seems like now you've sort of backed off that position a little bit, because there are million that we estimate that are in this country illegally. Why wouldn't we send them back? CHERTOFF: ...I also recognize we've got, according to some estimates, 10 to 11 million illegals already in this country working. And the cost of identifying all of those people...

Myths and lies of illegal immigration ArticlesBy Kathy McKee; January 4, 2004; published in The Sonoran News Because the pro-illegal alien lobby has a bottomless pit of money and can hire PR people to spin (and fabricate) anything any way, there are an undue number of myths and lies that the public (and many politicians) has bought into. The FACTS are: 1. It is NOT racist to call these people "illegal aliens" In fact, "illegal aliens" is the only term used in federal laws and regulations to describe criminals (and they ARE criminals) who come into our country illegally. They...

In the interest of saving space and because every newspaper or website you read has a story about illegal immigration, here is a review of just some of the headlines from various sources. A few complain of ALL the threads posted on this subject, perhaps this will satisfy them. Nothing has yet, no source, no conservative voice, but we'll try here anyway. JAS ______________ 115 illegal immigrants slipped through borders – Peters 05 March 2005 More than 100 illegal immigrants are at large in New Zealand, New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters says. In Parliament on Wednesday Mr Peters questioned...

OLATHE, Kan. -- Twelve people were treated for carbon-monoxide poisoning early Monday morning. Emergency crews were called to a duplex in the 200 block of South Lake. Firefighters evacuated both sides of the building. Investigators said a disconnected furnace flue pipe in the attic was the problem. Firefighters said the carbon monoxide levels were five to 10 times above the danger level. "We had high levels of carbon monoxide on both sides. Our meters peak out at 999, and they peaked out at that level. So we knew we had significant amounts of carbon monoxide inside," Battalion Chief Ken Keiter...

WASHINGTON (AP) - A ragged fence and a canyon called Smugglers Gulch mark the westernmost stretch of the California-Mexico border, a favorite crossing point for illegal immigrants and drug runners. ...Now supporters may be getting closer to victory. A provision in an immigration bill expected to pass the House next week would give the homeland security secretary authority to move forward with the project regardless of any laws that stand in the way, and would bar courts from hearing lawsuits against it. "We need to get this thing done, and we need to do it for security reasons, and at...

A plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty says: Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door. For centuries, people from around the world have accepted this invitation to become a part of America--the great land of freedom and opportunity. Most of these people complied with the law that allowed them to melt into the American culture and become contributors to this great nation. Now, however, most of the people entering...
