On Thursday, the U.S. military dropped a MOAB (Mother Of All Bombs) on an ISIS tunnel complex in Nangahar Province in Afghanistan. Shortly after that, USA Today posted a breathtakingly ignorant graphic purporting to show that the MOAB contained over 70 percent of the destructive force of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. This epic fail occurred even though the following comparison was known early on: The MOAB has the force of 11 tons of TNT. For comparison, the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 had the force of 15 thousand tons of TNT. The destructive force of the...

Readers of FoxNews.com have blasted a Sept. 30 column criticizing Massachusetts’ decision to support an open document format for its published documents, a move that would limit or even eliminate the use of Microsoft Corp.’s Office software in state government agencies. The column, “Massachusetts Should Close Down OpenDocument,” was written by James Prendergast, executive director of the Americans for Technology Leadership, an organization Microsoft co-founded. Several of the letters, published Wednesday on FoxNews.com, accuse Microsoft of trying to promote its own interests by presenting Prendergast, writing for a Microsoft-linked organization, as an unbiased observer. This practice is known as “astroturfing,”...

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho — The human remains found in Montana last week belong to kidnapped Idaho boy Dylan Groene (search), DNA testing has shown, according to Capt. Ben Wolfinger of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office. Wolfinger said in an e-mail that the FBI lab in Quantico, Va., had positively identified the remains. "Out of respect for the Groene family and to maintain the integrity of the investigation and prosecution of this matter, there will be no further comment regarding these results," Wolfinger wrote in the e-mail, adding that investigators continue to follow-up on other leads. Convicted sex offender Joseph Edward...
  • Fox News Won't Help Keep Fox News on in Japan

My TV just flashed a notice that Fox News will come to and end as of July 31, 2002 here in Japan and so I frantically called up News Broadcasting Japan. In my phone conversation with Sugu Koizumi, the primary press contact of News Broadcasting Japan, I found out that they were a really small company within News Corporation, and were fighting tooth and nail to keep Fox News on the air, but that several factors were working against them and they simply have to give up. (1) The low subscriber level was killing them (only about 4,000 he said)....
