The government should focus on regulating behavior rather than overhauling the whole economy to prevent a future economic crisis from taking hold, Jack Welch, author of "Winning" and "Straight from the Gut," told CNBC Thursday. "I'm telling you, you regulate behavior and you get better results. Through management, through boards… stronger leadership," he added. GE is the parent company of CNBC.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Monday criticized U.S. President Barack Obama's plan to raise taxes on U.S. companies' foreign operations, saying it would amount to double taxation that will hurt the global economy. "This is a serious decision for the world economy," Putin said at a meeting of the Presidium, the government said on its web site. "If taxes are imposed on all companies working abroad, then it will mean the total destruction of the system for avoiding double taxation." Putin instructed Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin to hold discussions on the plan with Obama's administration. Kudrin met with finance ministers...

Fifty-one percent (51%) of Americans favor an across-the-board tax cut for all Americans to stimulate the U.S. economy, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Thirty-four percent (34%) oppose such a tax cut, and 15% are undecided. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of both Republicans and adults not affiliated with either major political party think an across-the-board tax cut is a good idea. Democrats are fairly evenly divided on the wisdom of such a tax cut. During Election 2008, then-candidate Obama promised to cut taxes for 95% of all Americans. So far, just 26% of adults believe President Obama has...

President Obama has spoken recently of "creating or saving" 600,000 jobs at a mere expense of $787 billion. Sixty thousand of these, he claims, have already been created or saved. Just last month, of course, it was a million jobs that were to be created or saved. The month before, I believe, it was three million jobs. The number seems to be declining. Let's be clear. Creating 60,000 jobs is an action that can be verified. If there were 100,000,000 jobs on Monday and 100,060,000 jobs on Friday, that is an increase of 60,000 jobs. The idea, however, that 60,000...

broad consensus on the contours of legislation to remake the nation’s health care system appeared to be developing among Democratic leaders on Tuesday as three House committee chairmen outlined a bill generally similar to one being written in the Senate. Democratic leaders in both houses said they would require individuals to carry insurance and employers to help pay for it. But they have yet to decide how to raise the necessary tax revenue. Leaders in both chambers said they wanted to establish a new public health insurance program, which would compete with private insurers. But they have not settled on...

A quick check of the AFL-CIO website for April 15, shows that John Sweeny, Socialist, made no comments about the plight of American Workers under the current, archaic, 60,0000 plus page job destroying tax system . A quick check on Google.com tells the story why. By entering, “John J Sweeney” and the word “Socialist”, I got 184 returns listed by Google.com. Now you would expect to see a lot of conservative websites tagging Sweeney with the Socialist label. After all, John Sweeney is a self admitted socialist, and is listed as a celebrity member on the Democrat Socialist of America...

Dear Josh: Thank you for making me aware of your idea for a National Sales Tax. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me on this matter. Like you, I believe our current tax code needs to be reformed. It is too complicated and I agree that we need to work on a bipartisan basis to significantly overhaul and simplify it. However, I have some concerns about the level of taxation which would be necessary in order to fund general government outlays and Social Security if a sales tax was the government's only source of income. Studies done by the...
