<p>LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The U.S. television audience for Sunday’s Emmy Awards dropped to 11.3 million viewers on average, the lowest level on record in the 68-year history of the industry’s highest honors, according to ratings data released by ABC on Monday.</p>

<p>Near the beginning of the 69th annual Primetime Emmy Awards last night, host Stephen Colbert hauled former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer onstage to declare that the CBS-broadcast show would have “the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period — both in person and around the world.”</p>

The 69th Emmy Awards are looking as though they’ll be at or near an all-time low in the ratings. CBS’ live telecast of the awards is currently showing a 2.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.58 million viewers, compared to 2.5 and 9.69 million in last year’s preliminary ratings. CBS has ordered time zone-adjusted ratings, and we’ll update this post when they come in. Last year’s ceremony finished with a 2.8 and 11.3 million viewers and was the least-watched Emmy show on record.
