Allow me to offer a suggestion as to how our government might avoid the slaughter of our personnel in diplomatic installations around the Islamic world by mobs. It seems to me most probable that insults to the Prophet Muhammad appear regularly in the modern world. After all, insults against revered figures in the world's other major religions pop up all the time. As for Islam, a book such as Salman Rushdie's "Satanic Verses" can be published anywhere. A thirteen-minute anti-Islamic video can arrive on YouTube, and my guess is there are others that have and will appear there. In some...

The authorities in Pakistan have called on the army to control protesters demonstrating against an amateur video mocking Islam outside the US embassy in the capital, Islamabad. Live rounds have been heard and tear gas has been fired as police struggled to contain the crowd of thousands. The film, which was made in the US, is said to insult the Prophet Muhammad. Several people have died in protests in the past week against the film in the Middle East and North Africa. The BBC's Aleem Maqbool in Islamabad says some protesters have said they will not leave the diplomatic enclave...

Mike Barnicle has suggested that the Department of Justice consider prosecuting Florida pastor Terry Jones in the death of the American ambassador to Egypt and deaths occurring during riots last year in Afghanistan. Hat tip readers Melody, Jonathan R., Ray R. Barnicle made his suggestion on today's Morning Joe, during a discussion of the attacks on the American embassy in Egypt and the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, where the American ambassador died after an attack by an Libyan mob. Fellow panelist Donny Deutsch responded by saying he was "thinking the same thing" as Barnicle. View the video here.
