Herman Cain tells National Review Online that he will launch a new political-action committee in January. The outfit, whose final name remains under wraps, will be Cain’s main project next year. Its mission will be to enact his “9-9-9” economic plan. “We continue the campaign without a candidate,” says Cain, who hinted at the endeavor during his departure speech. “There are a lot of people who are willing to support the campaign for solutions without the end objective being my election as president of the United States.” As Cain transitions to private life, “Friends of Herman Cain,” the financial force...

PHOENIX - After first apologizing for suggesting an electric fence along the border, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told reporters here Monday that he still thinks it's a good idea for controlling illegal immigration. "I'm not walking away from that," he said. Cain has spent the last several days explaining a controversial comment about building an electrified fence along the U.S. - Mexico border that he said could kill people trying to enter the country illegally. On Sunday, he said his comments were "a joke." But talking to reporters here after a meeting here with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio,...

At two campaign rallies in Tennessee on Saturday night, the Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally. But by Sunday morning, in a dramatic change of tone, Mr. Cain, a former restaurant executive, said he was only kidding. “That’s a joke,” Mr. Cain told the journalist David Gregory during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” where he was asked about the electrified fence. “That’s not a serious plan. I’ve also said...

  • Livestock, not talk radio, gets Lott’s goat

Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) gets that talk radio hosts are angry with him, but he wants to set a couple of things straight: He’s not hiding, and he still doesn’t like that fence. Lott told a scrum of reporters on June 14 that “talk radio is running America — we have to deal with that problem,” adding that the troublemakers who are overwhelmingly opposed to the immigration legislation “don’t even know what’s in the bill.” Now they’re really mad. “The people that he’s actually complaining and whining about now are the ones that tried to defend him when everybody else...

I've felt the need to post this question as a separate thread, because most threads dealing with the illegal immigration issue cover so much ground (figuratively speaking...), that this aspect gets lost in the mix all too often. Reasonable people can disagree on what exactly our immigration policy should be, but I would hope that everyone can agree, that no matter what our policy is, whatever law that remains needs to be enforced. Even if we allow nealy unrestricted immigration, there are still going to be people whom we can't be letting in under any circumstances, and, one would think,...
