A former Connecticut state representative pleaded guilty Tuesday in connection with the theft of more than $1.2 million in federal coronavirus relief funds from the city of West Haven, using some of the money for gambling at a casino, according to prosecutors. Michael DiMassa, a West Haven Democrat, appeared in federal court in Hartford and pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud conspiracy. A U.S. Justice Department investigation into the East Haven Police Department has found a pattern of discrimination against Latino residents in violation of their constitutional rights and federal law. The results of the investigation, which was launched in September 2009, were released Monday. It was prompted by allegations of biased policing, unconstitutional searches and seizures and use of excessive force by police. EAST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) - Members of the East Haven community are hosting a rally Wednesday night to support their police department, which is under investigation after complaints of racial profiling against Latinos. The members are also asking for the mayor's support. On Wednesday, Mayor April Capone said she supports the department, but wants to see what the FBI finds after its investigation. A video taken in March 2009 led the controversy and an FBI investigation into the department. The video, taken by a priest inside a Latino-owned business, shows officers giving his Latino parishioners a hard time.
