The U.S. Defense Department is facing a lawsuit to turn over emails and documents about how the agency came to delete the phrase "Duty, Honor, Country" from the mission statement of the United States Military Academy at West Point. The conservative legal watchdog organization Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit against the Defense Department last week after the Military Academy failed to respond to its Freedom of Information Act request filed in March 2024. While the words "Duty, Honor, Country" remain the academy's motto, West Point Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steven Gilland said in March that following a year-and-a-half assessment, the mission...
  • Co-ed Combat and Cultural Cowardice

If I were the last man on the planet to think so, I would want the honor of saying no woman should go before me into combat to defend my country. A man who endorses women in combat is not pro-woman; he’s a wimp. He should be ashamed. For most of history, in most cultures, he would have been utterly scorned as a coward to promote such an idea. Part of the meaning of manhood as God created us is the sense of responsibility for the safety and welfare of our women. Back in the seventies, when I taught in...

WASHINGTON, June 7, 2006 – Growing up "green" with a pair of Army parents and moving around the world influenced a West Point cadet's decision to give military life a whirl. Cadet Sgt. Philip S. Bucci, a second-generation West Pointer, said his military parents influenced his decision to attend the academy. Photo by Gerry J. Gilmore (Click photo for screen-resolution image);high-resolution image available. "Dad graduated from West Point in 1977, and Mom was an Army nurse," recalled Cadet Sgt. Philip S. Bucci, who has just completed his second year at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. "I've always...

General Westmoreland, General Groves, distinguished guests, and gentlemen of the Corps. As I was leaving the hotel this morning, a doorman asked me, "Where are you bound for, General?" and when I replied, "West Point," he remarked, "Beautiful place, have you ever been there before?" No human being could fail to be deeply moved by such a tribute as this, coming from a profession I have served so long and a people I have loved so well. It fills me with an emotion I cannot express. But this award is not intended primarily for a personality, but to symbolize a...

If ever you have your doubts about this country, talk to the people who serve this country. People like the ones onboard this amazing ship, the USS Philippine Sea.

They're incredible men and women. After all they've been through, they smile and joke, kid and dream. They don't earn a lot of money, but they sure earn a lot of respect. They don't own much stock, but they sure have me taking stock. And they don't yap about things that make you rich, but live and breathe things that make you think.
