Reneé Hall is resigning as the chief of police of the Dallas Police Department, city officials announced Tuesday. Hall's resignation goes into effect at the end of the year. She initially said she would resign Nov. 10, but Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax asked her to stay longer. In her letter of resignation, Hall wrote that she has received inquiries about "future career opportunities" in recent months. The process of jury selection in the Amber Guyger murder case is expected to span at least a week. Dallas police say one of their officers was going home after her shift when she walked into the wrong apartment and shot and killed the man inside. About four hours after a Dallas police officer was nearly caught by a colleague in the act of sexually assaulting a woman while on duty, he raped another woman about three miles away, according to an affidavit for arrest warrant. Jeffrey Damon Thorn, 26, who was fired on the day he was arrested on an aggravated sexual assault charge in the first case, was rearrested this week on a sexual assault charge in the other case.
