A Christian business selling dog tags with Bible verses won a legal victory this week in its long fight to overturn a government ban on its business. The business in question, Shields of Strength, is run by Kenny and Tammie Vaughan and sells an array of Christian-themed inspirational jewelry. The business created military dog tags for U.S. service members, selling two million and donating another 2 million to inspire and encourage American troops. However, after one group complained about the effort, the U.S. Department of Defense in 2019 ordered Shields of Strength to stop distributing the dog tags, saying they...

Hunter Biden's emails reveal his close relationship with the Chinese-American secretary who worked for him when he went into business with the man he called the 'spy chief of China.' The mysterious young assistant wrote the president's son flirty messages, sent him opposition research for Joe's White House run and encouraged him to draw funds from the company's accounts when the joint venture collapsed and even ended up with Hunter's military dog tags. In 2017 Hunter went into business with Patrick Ho, secretary general of Chinese oil giant CEFC.

A Virginia National Guard sergeant was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months of supervised probation for stealing World War II-era dog tags from the National Archives and Records Administration in Maryland. U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas DiGirolamo also ordered Robert Rumsby, 30, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, to pay a $5,000 fine. Rumsby had faced a maximum sentence of 1 year of incarceration after pleading guilty in November to one misdemeanor count of theft. Rumsby told investigators he took dog tags that belonged to four U.S. airmen killed in plane crashes in 1944, according to a criminal complaint. Rumsby’s wife is the great niece...

Last month, Steve Glomb got a message on his answering machine at his Buda home. The caller spoke in a thick Italian accent, but Glomb could make out the words "metal detector ... dog tags ... Oscar Glomb." The message, he would learn, held the answer to a 66-year-old family mystery. His father, Oscar F. Glomb, had served with the 36th Infantry Division — which today is a Camp Mabry-based Texas National Guard unit — and landed at the Bay of Salerno in 1943. In June 1944, in a battle near Gavorrano, Italy, shrapnel from an artillery shell tore through...

Thirty years ago, a young Frenchman walking in Normandy came across an American soldier's rusted dog tag among the rocks at Nacqueville, west of the port of Cherbourg. The name read: "Addison W. Arthurs." Etienne Desquesnes, now 46, wanted to return it to the owner or his family. But who was Addison Arthurs? Mr. Desquesnes wrote to the U.S. embassy in Paris but never got an answer. He finally has one now, and just in time for Veterans Day, thanks to some Internet sleuthing by his friend, Bertrand Goucovitch, 49, an amateur D-Day historian, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. After a...

A Cannon Falls man who travels the world looking for the remains of U.S. troops still missing in action has found another 21 dog tags. Eighty-year-old Bryan Moon spent two weeks earlier this month in the jungles of Papua-New Guinea. It was his sixth trip the South Pacific Island. While there, he says bought 21 dog tags from American servicemen from local villagers. He doesn't know if they were left behind or are from missing troops. The tags have been turned over to the U.S. Army Recovery Unit in Hawaii for further investigation. Moon says he also found two "killing...

WHEATON, Ill. - V.R. Roskam didn't know anything about the men whose names were stamped on the small, thin pieces of metal. He didn't know one belonged to a young Marine killed by a land mine. Or that one flew off a teenage soldier's neck when he jumped from a helicopter into a firefight. But Roskam fought in Korea, and the way he saw it, 37 dog tags didn't belong in a wicker basket in some Ho Chi Minh City souvenir stand - they belonged in the hands of men who lost them fighting the Vietnam War. "It's a matter...

Of particular interest to Israel were the reports emanating from Iraq this morning that coalition forces had uncovered two chemical-weapons production factories. One of them waslocated 150kilometers south of Baghdad, while the site of the other has not been publicized. The British Defense Ministry has allowed 15 Jewish soldiers fighting in the Persian Gulf to remove from their dog-tags the label identifying them as Jews. The soldiers expressed concern that this identification would endanger them in case the Iraqis take them captive. JTA notes that it is Britain's practice to note the soldiers' religion in case a chaplain is needed. Associated...

Young woman travels to Vietnam and purchases US military dog tags in hopes of returning them to veterans or their family members. My name is Stacey. I am 33 years old and have been a Firefighter with a West Coast City for the past 4 years; a paramedic for 8. I have had the fortunate opportunity of coming into contact with many Veterans, most now on the brink of retirement. I feel extremely honored to have heard some of your courageous and painful stories. To know of your reluctance to speak after 30 years...the hell and the horror you endured,...
