I am in great need of advice although the problems are not earth-shattering. I am about to toss AT&T U=Verse to the four winds. U-Verse is the absolute Verst! I liked AT&T Direct TV ok, but rates really skyrocketed after my contract ran out. I have never tried DISH TV and was hoping I could get reactions from Freepers who have tried it and be good enough to let me know what they think of it. How was the DISH service in particular? I don't have any neighbors who have DISH TV or know of anyone who does which makes...

NEW YORK (AP) — A high-drama telecom deal is heading to court. T-Mobile, in its attempt to buy Sprint for $26.5 billion, has already notched approvals from key federal regulators. Now it must convince a federal judge that the 14 state attorneys general suing to stop the deal are wrong. A trial starts Monday in U.S. District Court in New York and is expected to last several weeks. If T-Mobile prevails, the number of major U.S. wireless companies would shrink to three from four. A combined T-Mobile-Sprint would become a fiercer competitor to larger Verizon and AT&T . But the...

As our calculator shows, the perhaps impulsive addition of just one service to your budget can snowball into a hefty outlay over a hypothetical half-century horizon, particularly when you're looking at that "true" lifetime cost. Take someone paying for Netflix's NFLX, +0.07% standard subscription and Hulu, with no add-ons. That person is looking at a monthly bill of $18.98, and a lifetime aggregate cost of $19,264. Factor in the opportunity cost -- as represented by how much money could have been made investing that same money in the S&P 500 over those years -- and the lifetime cost balloons to...

Dish Network Corp. lost a record number of TV subscribers in the second quarter as programming blackouts and price increases drove customers to seek cheaper online alternatives, reviving industrywide concerns about “cord-cutting.” Dish shed 281,000 pay-TV customers in the quarter, compared with a loss of 81,000 a year earlier, according to a statement from the Englewood, Colorado-based company Thursday. That marks the biggest loss of TV subscribers in any quarter. The rate of monthly customer defections, or churn, rose to 1.96 percent from 1.71 percent a year earlier, Dish said in a separate filing.

Here we are at the start of 2016, when Prime membership costs $99 a year, and a new report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) estimates that there are currently roughly 54 million Amazon Prime members in the U.S. Overall, 47% of the people who shop at Amazon are Prime members, the study says. For Amazon, the astonishing growth of Prime is a tremendous win-win. Amazon benefits doubly with Prime because 1) it collects annual subscription fees from tens of millions of consumers; and 2) subscribers tend to spend a disproportionately high amount of money with Amazon compared to non-members....

Dish's grand experiment is called Sling TV, and before going on, we need to point out that it has very little to do with the Sling brand you may already be familiar with. There's no direct partnership with Slingbox or Sling Media, though both it and Dish are beneath a single parent company, EchoStar. So right off the bat, it's a somewhat confusing name that Dish maybe could've done better with. Another thing: though this is a service designed by and coming from Dish, you wouldn't know it without being told. The satellite provider's own logo is nowhere to be...

DISH FAQS Posted: Dec 19, 2014 1:50 PM CST 1. What is happening? By law, WBOC and FOX21 must negotiate carriage agreements with satellite companies like DISH. Usually, these deals are reached without any disruption to your service. In fact, our company has negotiated dozens of agreements. Unfortunately, so far, DISH has refused to reach a fair, market-based deal to carry WBOC and FOX21. Our existing agreement with DISH expires at midnight on Dec. 31, 2014. If no deal is reached before that date, you will lose live access to the shows, sports and local news on WBOC and FOX21,...

Fox News finds new way to scare its viewers, warns of Dish blackout December 15, 2014 | By Daniel Frankel Already adept at scaring its rapt audience, Fox News has begun warning Dish Network (NASDAQ: DISH) subscribers that the channel, along with Fox Business News, could disappear from their program guides "any day now." The campaign features the usual TV spots, directing viewers to visit the "protest the operator" website, in this case KeepFoxNews.com. Fox News versus Dish Fox's post urged Dish subscribers to call the satellite operator. (Source: KeepFoxNews.com) A Fox News blog post notes, "Despite the undeniable demand...

Dish TV has eliminated a number of stations (unfortunately, MSNBC was not one of them). From their website: "Our contract with Turner Networks (Turner) has expired and they have removed CNN, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, CNN en Español, Headline News, truTV, and Turner Classic Movies from DISH’s channel lineup At DISH, we believe the customer should always come first. That’s why we work hard to bring you the best programming at a fair value. Learn more about our commitment to you." Should I switch to DirectTV?

I want "The Blaze TV" and I'm considering changing from Directv to either Internet driven by ROKU or Dish TV. I've seen Dish before and didn't like how hard it was to remove the channels you didn't like off the list you view to see what's current. I know nothing about ROKU, and would appreciate it if a ROKU user told me how they like it, how it works, what's available, and how much it cost per month. What other ways are there to watch the Blaze TV?

Washington, D.C. (January 9, 2013) -- The Consumer Electronics Show is more than a convention. It's an opportunity for companies to position themselves as leaders in their respective categories. And with the world's media -- and more than 150,000 attendees -- watching, there's a lot at stake. So with the 2013 CES nearing the end of day three, it's a good time to take a first look at which companies have emerged as this show's winners and losers. Winner: Netflix The online home video service doesn't make a single piece of hardware, but it captured the show's attention on Monday...

Anyone experiencing outage on their Dish Network?

Any Dish TV subscribers having problems with getting the signal? I've lost the signal on all my TVs and resetting the smart card is not working. I live in SOCAL. Just wondering if this is a local problem only. Tried to contact Dish TV but the lines are jammed. Thanks.

Dish Network has taken the Federal Communication Commission to court over the congressional mandate to deliver noncommercial stations' HD signals by next year. The suit was filed in a U.S. District Court in Las Vegas Thursday, where the satellite operator is incorporated. DISH is seeking a temporary restraining order and injunction against the FCC from enforcing the congressional mandate, which the company argues violates its First Amendment right to chose its own programming. "This is not a case about whether PBS provides important and worthwhile programming or should receive funding from the Government,: saidthe company. "DISH highly values PBS programming,...

NEW YORK - The Al Jazeera Network plans to announce on Thursday that it has signed a deal to run its news on Worldfocus, a syndicated nightly news program produced in New York and distributed throughout the United States. The deal would help the international news network, one of the top services in the Arabic-speaking world, broaden its reach in the United States, where it so far has been available to only a limited audience. Worldfocus, hosted by former NBC News correspondent Martin Savidge, is produced by New York City public broadcaster WLIW and syndicated to a number of Public...

Lawyers for TiVo Inc. were expected to tell a federal court jury Wednesday that satellite-TV broadcaster Dish Network stole the technology used in TiVo's popular device for recording and replaying live television. Lawyers for EchoStar Communications Corp., the parent of Dish Network, planned to argue that their client didn't infringe on TiVo's patent for a ``multimedia time warping system'' and instead invented their own digital video recorder.[snip]TiVo changed the way many Americans watch TV and made the company name a verb for recording programs. It has never translated its status in pop culture into profits, however. The company has lost...
