What do I mean by “Bad Faith”? My definition of bad faith is that the person you’re speaking with does not believe you are speaking from a place of care but a place of hatred. If you believe the person on the other side of the phone is a Nazi, you would presume they are coming from a place of hatred. It doesn’t matter if they are a Nazi, it only matters what you presume it to be true. Once that person believes the assumption to be true, there is no genuine conversation to be had, only a debate. Debates...

Ivanka Trump said resettling Syrian refugees in the United States should be “part of the discussion.” “I think there is a global humanitarian crisis that’s happening,” Ivanka — who serves as a special assistant to her father — said during an interview with the “Today” show. “And we have to come together and we have to solve it.” When asked if that means letting Syrian refugees into the United States, Ivanka said, “That has to be part of the discussion, but that’s not going to be enough in and of itself.” Donald Trump signed an executive order in March that...

Been watching the Trayvon threads closely, and following the news. It is mere curiosity on my part, watching how both sides set the narrative, or at least attempt to. Some guy kills another in Florida - how does that impact me? Yet it did. I am not going to even try to minimize the total horror George Zimmerman is going through right now. Hunted and vilified for protecting his life and his community and with a totally illegal bounty on his head. Innocent people forced to flee their homes thanks to one idiot who couldn't be bothered to check the...

A few people asked me to write this, after a couple of comments I made on another thread. The first few chapters of Genesis are, with minimal mental gymnastics, a clear and accurate statement of science, as we understand it today. I am not talking from any particular creed here. Though a Catholic, (and without any authority!), I am from a background of a devout Protestant and much less devout Jewish culture who is, like many people, simply looking for answers. My training was as a Biochemist, at a time when we were first starting to map the genome. So,...

State officials say a New Jersey man and his adult son were wounded in a pheasant hunting accident this weekend, then shot a second time while they were discussing the first mishap with authorities Both shootings occurred Saturday morning in the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management area in Jackson. The first shooting involved a single hunter who fled the scene, while the second involved a group of other hunters. The victims — identified only as two Jackson residents, ages 60 and 34 — each had pellet wounds to their face and hands, but the injuries were not considered serious. A state...

On January 7, long before Italy was in the spotlight of mainstream media attention, I wrote Italy The Invisible Elephant. It was five or six months before Italy became an uncloaked popular economic topic. However, "elephant hunting" is now a popular sport and mainstream media has done a better job at spotting the next one (with help of S&P threats to France's AAA rating of course). Elephant Spotting Articles San Francisco Chronicle: France Plans EU7 Billion in Taxes, Cuts to Save AAA Rating France unveiled tax increases and spending cuts amounting to 7 billion euros ($9.6 billion) for next year...

A hot mic left on during a Senate vote Tuesday morning on the Food Safety Act caught a Democratic senator complaining that the process of setting the agenda during the lame-duck session is “rigged.” “It’s all rigged. The whole conversation is rigged,” said Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet. “The fact that we don’t get to a discussion before the break about what we’re going to do in the lame duck. It’s just rigged.” The remark was picked up live on C-SPAN 2,

In 1997, Henry Payne, the political cartoonist for the Detroit News and editor of TheMichiganView.com, said he was in Washington D.C. for a press conference on the international agreement on climate change called the Kyoto Protocol. Payne recalled the first question of the press conference was asked by the New York Times environmental reporter. "How do we get Americans to stop driving SUVs?" Payne said the reporter asked. Kyoto sets binding agreements for 37 countries for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, according to the United Nations. Payne said the rest of the press conference was "simple cheerleading" by reporters. He used...

During the 2008 political campaign, then-Senator Barack Obama called for a national discussion on race. Later, Attorney General Eric Holder called us a nation of cowards for not having such discussions: He said that Americans are afraid to talk about race, adding that “certain subjects are off-limits and that to explore them risks at best embarrassment and at worst the questioning of one’s character.” So let’s try to honor these doubtless well-intended requests. It’s entirely possible that President Obama has poisoned the well for at least a generation. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is black;...

Dennis Prager is fond of saying he'll take clarity over agreement any day and that is a good phrase to keep in mind when you open your big mouth to join the debate. In keeping with the quest for intelligent dialog, here is a list of ten things that I think we should all stop saying because it makes those who indulge in them look, well, stupid. 1). "That's just your opinion." Really? What else would it be? Who goes around blurting out everyone else's opinion but never their own, anyway? Don't say this because being captain obvious doesn't make...

I am a real estate investor (wholesaler, for now) in the Baltimore, MD area and I was wondering if there were other RE investors out there in FRland. I wanted to open a forum thread to discuss strategies on how to invest in these harsh economic times and what to invest in. I've been a Real Estate investor for about a year and believe that we have a huge opportunity to make good money given that the housing market is so low. You know, buy low, sell high, right? However, I would like to talk to other RE investors who...
