The fourth Republican presidential debate was, by most accounts, a bit of a snoozer. But in a good way. There was less interpersonal conflict, more substantive discussion of economic policy. Donald Trump, in particular, was judged "subdued" and “surprisingly subdued” and "uncharacteristically subdued.” Trump himself pronounced it "a very elegant evening" in which "everybody actually did fine." All very forgettable, civil and elegant. Except the part where the Republican front-runner proposed the forced expulsion of 11 million people and endorsed the historical precedent of Operation Wetback, an Eisenhower-era mass deportation program that was as ugly and offensive as its name....

A new poll of 2,000 citizens shows that Donald Trump's immigration stance has more support among Hispanic Americans than Gov. Mitt Romney won in 2012, even after the pollsters reminded respondents of Trump's most controversial statements on immigration. Twenty-eight percent of Hispanic Americans agreed with Trump's June statement that "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems. A new battleground survey, conducted for the pro-GOP group American Crossroads by pollsters Vox Populi, found that 59 percent of voters in seven battleground states said they were less likely to support Clinton in light of her comment that problems at the Veterans Administration were not as "widespread" as Republicans suggested. And she doesn't need any more headaches with the voters in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia.
