San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich says he’s “sick” to his stomach over the officer-involved shooting of Minneapolis man Daunte Wright on Sunday. “It just makes you sick to your stomach. How many times does it have to happen?” Popovich told reporters. “… That individual is dead. He’s dead. And his family is grieving, and his friends are grieving.” Popovich also directed his ire at Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R, TX), whom he called “deplorable” and “almost impossible to listen to.” “The other day when guns came up, he actually made the statement again, an old trite myth argument that,...

When Daunte Demetrius Wright was pulled over Sunday by police in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, an expired registration tag and a forbidden air freshener were the least of his problems. The 20-year-old Wright had an open warrant for a Dec. 1, 2019, attack in which he allegedly tried to rob a female acquaintance by brandishing a handgun and threatening to shoot her, choking her twice and reaching into her bra to grab $820 as she screamed, according to court documents. Mr. Wright faced being sent to jail for violating the conditions of his release, including a prohibition against firearms possession, which...

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — Former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter, 48, was charged with second-degree manslaughter Wednesday in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright. Wright, 20, was killed Sunday during a traffic stop. If convicted, Potter faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. The news was broken by the Star Tribune, which is reporting that Potter will be represented by attorney Earl Gray. Potter was charged by the Washington County Attorney's Office after the case was handed over from Hennepin County in order to avoid any conflict of interest.

Daunte Wright allegedly had a warrant out for his arrest at the time he was shot and killed by a Brooklyn Center police officer near Minneapolis, Minnesota, court papers obtained by the British Daily Mail newspaper suggest. “Wright was to face trial on a charge of attempted aggravated robbery – with a possible maximum sentence of 20 years in prison,” the newspaper reported. The charge stems from December 2019 when Wright, then 19 , and a man named Emajay Driver, 18 years old, allegedly visited a residence shared by two women in Osseo, Minnesota. Wright allegedly tried to hold up...

Daunte Wright, the 20-year-old black man fatally shot during a traffic stop in Minnesota, was “afraid police would do something like this to him,” according to a local educator who mentored Wright. Jonathan Mason, a youth development specialist who became close with Wright when he was a student at Edison High School in Minneapolis said he, Wright and other young black men often talked about how to handle interactions with cops.

The National Guard has been called out to control rioting in the wake of a police shooting in the northern Minneapolis lower-middle-class suburb of Brooklyn Center (whose Caucasian population is 44.5% according to Census Bureau estimates). Rioters behaved with a hair trigger response, with at least one shot fired into the police station, and looting reported locally and many miles distant, on Lake Street in Minneapolis, which received the brunt of the riot, looting, and arson damage following the drug overdose death of George Floyd while in police custody.KARE TV 11 reports:A curfew is in place for the city of...

The starnge, sometimes brilliant career of quarterback Daunte Culpepper — who played Butch to Randy Moss' Sundance in six seasons with the Vikings — has announced his retirement. It wasn't at a press conference, but in an email to NFL.com reporter Adam Schefter. Replaced by Trent Green in Miami, a backup with the Raiders ... yeah, that would do it for me too. And so that one guy in your fantasy pool who always drafts a big name free agent in the hopes that he'll pull out a Comeback Player of the Year season is foiled again. I hated that...

MIAMI -- The Miami Dolphins released quarterback Daunte Culpepper on Tuesday, ending the former Pro Bowler's short stint in South Florida and wrapping up what became a contentious split between the player and the team. The Dolphins made the move in a one-sentence release, without further comment. Miami tried for weeks to trade Culpepper, the former University of Central Florida star who was acquired by the Dolphins before the 2006 season, even though he was coming off major knee surgery. Culpepper never regained his form last year, struggling in four games before the team shut him down so he could...
