A US department of labor investigation uncovered child labor violations at three McDonald’s locations in Kentucky, which included finding two 10-year-olds working unpaid, sometimes until 2am. The three McDonald’s franchisees cited in the investigation own a total of 62 locations across Kentucky, Indiana, Maryland and Ohio, and were found to employ 305 children working more than legally permitted hours and performing job tasks prohibited by law for their age. Civil penalties totaling $212,754 were issued against the franchisees for the violations.

State lawmakers in New York have introduced legislation that would ban physicians in the state from performing “virginity checks.” A bill that was introduced in the New York State Assembly on Monday seeks to prohibit physicians in the state from “performing or supervising virginity examinations,” a memorandum for the legislation states. A companion bill was also introduced in the state Senate later this week. PHILADELPHIA — U.S. authorities seized more than $1 billion worth of cocaine Tuesday from a ship at a Philadelphia port, calling it one of the largest drug busts in American history. The U.S. attorney’s office in Philadelphia announced the massive bust on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, saying law enforcement agents seized about 33,000 pounds of cocaine from a large ship at the Packer Marine Terminal. Members of the crew were arrested and face federal charges.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has revoked the charter of a fraternity after a party at its house Sept. 12 left several underage guests severely intoxicated and some with memory lapses they believed were caused by date rape drugs slipped into drinks. The university initially suspended the charter of Tau Kappa Epsilon during its investigation of the party. The fraternity may petition for reinstatement after two years; that would require approval of both the student association and the dean of students. More than one in four sexual assaults occur after a woman has been drugged by her assailant, according to new Canadian research. The study, published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health, shows that the incidence of so-called ''date-rape drugging'' has increased dramatically in the past decade.
