A major internet outage has affected the websites of major retail, financial, logistics and travel websites, and appears to be affecting 911 services in several areas. Down Detector, a service that detects whether websites are working properly or not, began reporting a series of at least 50 major website outages shortly before 12pm EST on Thursday. Among the potentially affected websites were Costco, Airbnb, US Bank, UPS, Fox News, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, AT&T, Groupon, Expedia, HBO Max and TikTok, according to Down Detector.

The big-box chain store Costco is seeing many areas where prices are increasing due to rising inflation. From aluminum foil to shipping containers, the chain store has seen a 20% increase in meat prices over the past month. The company's CFO Richard Galanti said, according to CNBC, that there are "inflationary factors abound," adding, "These include higher labor costs, higher freight costs, higher transportation demand, along with the container shortage and port delays … increased demand in various product categories some shortages, various shortages of everything from chips to oils and chemical supplies by facilities hit by the Gulf freeze...

Friday afternoon, Walmart (WMT) executives sent out a letter to Walmart and Sam's Club stores as well as supply chain facilities encouraging employees to get vaccinated. At least 145 employees of a Washington state Costco have been infected with COVID-19, county health officials announced Tuesday, according to a report.
