“Silver Spoons” actor Ricky Schroder confronted a Costco employee who wouldn’t allow him entrance to the store without a mask. Schroeder shared video of the encounter on Facebook where it quickly went viral.

Schroder believes being forced to wear a mask is ‘medical tyranny.’

I went into a junk store to rumble through some junk and the karen behind the counter told me I needed a mask to enter the store. She did not like it when I asked her if everything in her junk shop had been already sterilized.

California, where Schroeder lives, still requires a mask. So, when the actor went to Costco and attempted to enter sporting his naked face, he couldn’t get into the store.

Sorry, Rick, but that's the way it is. I received the Costco email over the weekend that stated "masks are optional"; but it also said if local laws require the masks, then Costco does, too.

I don’t believe in harassing lowly employees for enforcing management policies.

Look, Ricky-
The Costco employee doesn’t have any choice. Stop being an a$$hole.

If you disagree with the mask policy, don’t shop at that place, but harassing somebody just doing their job and following the boss’s orders makes you a jerk who should have their butt kicked in my opinion.

I’ve been security and had to deal with a-holes who thought the rules (however stupid those rules might be) didn’t apply to them, ON PRIVATE PROPERTY. Several times I haven’t let someone into a venue for reasons ranging from intoxication to t-shirts; quite frankly several times I wish I could have been allowed to beat the crap out of the people who made an issue with it *even though* completely agreed their point of view....

So screw off Ricky you punk-a$$ed little B!tch and go hassle someone who deserves it, there’s no shortage of ‘em.

I feel the best way to resist is passively by putting the mask back on, walk away and pulling it down. You want the employees to get so tired of tracking people down that they just say “forget it”.

Costco was the worst for me. I told them that as a member since 1988, I joined Sam’s club because they didn’t require masks. And that is exactly what I did last December. Sure, Sam’s had the sign up, but they didn’t enforce it at all.

It makes me uncomfortable to do it, but you do it for the same reason you shoot German soldiers to ensure Hitler loses.

It is what got WalMart to back off on masks.

To get change, you have to start with the company representative you are dealing with. You make it uncomfortable for them to do what management tells them to do. It trickles up. It’s how it works.

I hated doing it, but it is necessary if you want change.

Bingo. Schroder is wrong here. That employee was polite, and was just trying to do his job. He didn’t need or deserve a lecture from Schroder. If Schroder doesn’t like the store’s policy (as goofy and as wrong as it may be), he should contact upper-level management. In the meantime, go shop somewhere else.

I did a lot of that. And yes, they do track you down. Even when you are the only person in an aisle.

I disagree. I think he did the exact right thing. And these people are actually paid pretty well...

You start with the front line to get to the generals.

He is factually correct, but at the same time he acted like an asshole. That employee has no authority, is told what to do and will be fired if reprimanded for failing to do so. He apparently has no concept of that.

Sorry, Mr. Schroder, but that was a total jackass move. The employee didn’t deserve that.

Same here - don’t want to wear a mask? don’t go in the stores that require a mask. Private business can make their own rules for things like this.

Berating some level-level employee to make a political point is low class in my opinion.

Don’t like costco’s rules, don’t shop at costco; pretty simple.

Hassling some poor schmuck following the boss’s orders on private property where you have a choice to go elsewhere? Nope, people who do that deserve a bust in the chops IMHO.

Been on the other side of that enough to feel that people who make someone just following orders (on private property where you are not compelled by law to go) ‘uncomfortable’ are at best misinformed (and in my opinion in need of getting tasered and a few good whacks with a nightstick, but I’m just a working droid).

“.. but you do it for the same reason you shoot German soldiers to ensure Hitler loses.”

As a side note, in WWI, a British corporeal withheld shooting Hitler, face to face at close range. Probably had enough killing for the day.
