Pakistani officers arrested a man at Karachi airport after batteries and an electrical circuit were found in his shoes as he tried to board a plane for the Middle East, an official said. The 30-year-old civil engineer allegedly told interrogators he came from Pakistan's northwestern province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Taliban and Islamist militants have a presence, and had been scheduled to travel to Muscat by Thai Airways. New Jersey casino investigators have reopened their case against the owners of a Clifton construction company that last year beat allegations of ties to organized crime and won a license to do business in Atlantic City. As part of the probe, the state Division of Gaming Enforcement wants to question former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, according to a subpoena issued to him.
