WASHINGTON, June 7, 2006 – The Defense Department yesterday issued an instruction detailing the standards of medical care in detainee operations. DoD Instruction 2310.08, titled "Medical Program Support for Detainee Operations," reaffirms the responsibility of health care personnel to protect and treat all detainees under their care humanely, said Dr. William Winkenwerder, assistant secretary of defense for health affairs.
