National security advisor Condoleezza Rice emphasizes to Cuban-American lawmakers that President Bush won't back down on his views. National security advisor Condoleezza Rice has written South Florida Republican legislators to stress that President Bush is committed to the economic embargo against Cuba and bringing democracy to the island. Her letter underscores the importance in the next presidential election of the Cuban-American electorate, a voting block considered necessary by the GOP to win in Florida, which is expected to be a key state. Rice, writing to State Rep. David Rivera, R-Miami, was responding to a letter that GOP state legislators had...

(Talon News) -- National Security Advisor Dr. Condoleezza Rice addressed the national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Monday and received the organization's Eisenhower Distinguished Service Award. The enthusiastic crowd that filled the San Antonio, Texas convention center heard Dr. Rice praise them for their "important work of helping to ensure that our veterans and our active-duty soldiers receive the respect and the benefits they deserve." Rice pointed out that it's been almost two years since the September 11 attacks and said, "It is worth taking a moment to reflect and report on the strategy that America has...

he Lexington Avenue Crunch isn't just a gym, it's a vat of eye candy. This is the joint that invented "Cardio Striptease." All the personal trainers are out-of-work models or actresses—this is Manhattan, after all—and even the members look like they got a discount for doling out a head shot. There are lots of pretty people here. I'm not one of them. But being in their company fools me into thinking I could be, and that's all the difference I need for that last set of squats. Today, though, after six months of Crunch, I'm finding the normal scenery suddenly...

WASHINGTON - Condoleezza Rice is used to making tough policy decisions as President Bush's national security adviser. Soon she'll face a tough personal decision: whether to run for governor of California.

Republicans in the state have been buzzing about the possibility that Rice, the former Stanford University provost who makes Silicon Valley her permanent home, may seek the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2006.

TAVIS SMILEY, host: From NPR in Los Angeles, I'm Tavis Smiley. On today's program, we'll talk about some of the challenges and triumphs of fathers today, and we'll get our laugh on with comedian Rickey Smiley. But first, where are the weapons of mass destruction? Did the Bush administration lie about evidence for going to war with Iraq? Earlier I put those questions directly to National Security Adviser Dr. Condoleezza Rice, who's been on a trip to California promoting US foreign policy. But before we got to the real conversation, I asked Dr. Rice whether the rumor was true that...

LONDON (AFP) - Top British tennis player Tim Henman has accepted an invitation to play US national security adviser Condoleezza Rice when he visits Washington for a tournament in July, a London newspaper reported. Rice, said to be passionate about tennis, will hit a few balls with Henman when he visits Washington for the Legg Mason Classic, a tournament on the men's professional tour, according to The Sunday Times. Henman's agent, quoted in the weekly, said the player had "agreed to play" Rice. The security adviser was a frequent doubles partner of Britain's former ambassador to the United States, Christopher...

May 8, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - The White House, led by National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, accused "Axis of Weasel" leader France yesterday of trying to take NATO "hostage" over the Iraq war.

Rice's salvo, quickly endorsed by President Bush's spokesman, came on the eve of today's White House visit by seven new NATO nations that backed Bush on Iraq, and were told to "shut up" by French President Jacques Chirac.

< snip > Quiet, respectful, anonymous—but firm, just the way the president wanted it. Rice’s aides call her the “anti-Kissinger,” meaning that she does not need to show off her influence or present herself as a master global strategist like Henry Kissinger. That may be in part because Rice is not a strategic genius, but no one doubts her power. Rice’s aides also refer to her (affectionately) as the “Warrior Princess.” She is proud, elegant, fastidious about her appearance (she keeps two mirrors in her office, so she can see her back as well as her front) and utterly unflappable....

Breaking News on Cover of Newsweek: The Quiet Power of Condi Rice -- Bush's Secret Weapon Born in ‘Bombingham,’ the enigmatic adviser has become the ‘Warrior Princess’—Bush’s secret White House weapon By Evan Thomas Dec. 16 issue — The vice president had gone too far. In a speech to the VFW on Aug. 26, Dick Cheney declared that a return of U.N. inspectors to Iraq could bring only “false comfort.” The obvious implication, at least to reporters covering the speech, was that the United States would have to go it alone to knock off Saddam Hussein and eliminate his weapons...

To Condi, with sweetness by Greg Swann The Los Angeles Times has an article (registration required, alas) speculating on the prospects for a 2008 presidential match-up between Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice. It's not a brand-new idea. I first heard of it from Andrew Sullivan. And the Times article is following-up on, without mentioning, a recent public address by William Safire. I am in love with this idea, and not just because I have publicly and repeatedly declared my enmity for all things Clinton. I would love to see Hillary Clinton get trounced at the polls by Condi Rice, but, truly,...

I am reading a book on Condolezza Rice, called CONDI. It states that she is (in her words) "pure Second Amendment", for small government, very conservative, to the point of libertarian at times, and pro-choice. It says she is a "realist" on foreign policy, favoring a very strong military. She refers to herself as "a very religious person;" (not sure how she squares that with her position on the life issue.) On a personal level, she is an outstanding pianist, figure skater, and desires (implied) to be Commissioner of the NFL someday.

NEW YORK ? A talk radio host has joined the attack on the leading African-American figures in the Bush administration, and drawn fire himself from critics who see his comments as racist. Just weeks after singer Harry Belafonte slammed Secretary of State Colin Powell, likening the fellow Jamaican-American to a "house slave," Florida's Neil Rogers jumped on the bandwagon with comments about National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice. "Is you their black-haired answer-mammy who be smart?" a song parody broadcast on Rogers' show says. "Does they like how you shine their shoes, Condoleezza? Or the way you wash and park the...

Adapted from the 2002 Wriston Lecture, which National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice delivered to a Manhattan Institute audience at the Waldorf Astoria on Tuesday night.

FOREIGN policy is ultimately about security - about defending our people, our society and our values, such as freedom, tolerance, openness and diversity. No place evokes these values better than our cities.

Special Dispatch Series - No. 385 May 31, 2002 No.385 Egyptian Opposition Weekly: Condoleezza Rice "Has Damaged the World of the Blacks," and "She Is Suited Only to Work at a Nightclub or to Make Her Bed in the Heart of the Jungles" In an article titled "The American Snake," Kamal Sa'ad, a columnist for the Egyptian opposition weekly Al-Usbu', attacked U.S. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, writing: "Within a few days, Condoleezza Rice, the black woman, became the most famous woman in the world when American president George Bush appointed her his top advisor. She does not flinch...

Most speakers at high school graduations try to give words of advice and wisdom to the outgoing students. Condoleezza Rice was no different, but she wanted the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School Class of 2002 to remember one thing: "I do not remember a single word my commencement speaker said, and neither will you," she said lightly. Rice blended humor with stories of her own experiences in her commencement address to the graduating seniors of B-CC at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. Tuesday afternoon. Rice urged the departing seniors to find their passions, and follow their dreams. "Your mission over...
