Windows 10 22H2 will be the final version of the operating system, Microsoft said in a blog post on Thursday. Moving forward, all editions of Windows 10 will be supported with monthly security updates until October 14th, 2025, when Microsoft will end support. (Some releases on the Long-Term Servicing Channel, or LTSC, will get updates past that end of support date.) Microsoft is encouraging users to now transition to Windows 11 because Windows 10 won’t be getting any new features. Now that Windows 11 has been out for more than a year and a half, it’s not too surprising that...

The germanium-tin processor was fabricated at the Helmholtz Nano Facility, the Helmholtz Association's central technology platform for the manufacturing of nanostructures and circuits. Credit: Forschungszentrum Juelich Scientists at Forschungszentrum Jülich have fabricated a new type of transistor from a germanium–tin alloy that has several advantages over conventional switching elements. Charge carriers can move faster in the material than in silicon or germanium, which enables lower voltages in operation. The transistor thus appears to be a promising candidate for future low-power, high-performance chips, and possibly also for the development of future of quantum computers. Over the past 70 years, the number...

Stephen Thaler petitioned the high court to review an appeals court’s decision that patents can only be issued to human inventors and that his AI system cannot be the legal creator of inventions it generated. Thaler said in his brief that AI is being used to innovate in fields ranging from medicine to energy, and that rejecting AI-generated patents “curtails our patent system’s ability — and thwarts Congress’s intent — to optimally stimulate innovation and technological progress.” SCOTUS declined to take up his case. The justices turned away Thaler’s appeal of a lower court’s ruling that patents can be issued...

The beam of light coming from the telescope is then shown in deep blue entering the instrument through the pick-off mirror located at the top of the instrument and acting like a periscope. Then, a series of mirrors redirect the light toward the bottom of the instruments where a set of 4 spectroscopic modules are located. Once there, the beam of light is divided by optical elements called dichroics in 4 beams corresponding to different parts of the mid-infrared region. Each beam enters its own integral field unit; these components split and reformat the light from the whole field of...

If Bud Light executives thought the right and Instagram superstar Bri Teresi would forget about the Dylan Mulvaney protest, they’ve got another thing comin’. Teresi, who is a Donald Trump superfan, uploaded a video Tuesday afternoon showing her going Kid Rock on what looks like a couple of cases of Bud Light and a row of bras. “GO WOKE GO BROKE,” Teresi commented (caps are her emphasis) on her patriotic video showing the full force of biological women who are pissed off. Bri Teresi is fed up with Bud Light and its latest nonsense where it used biological male Dylan...

Four in ten Brits claim they have no idea that electrical appliances still cost money when simply left on standby, or switched on at the mainsCoffee machines, electric cookers, and washing machines are the top electrical appliances that cost Brits the most money – whilst not even in use, a study has found. Two in five adults claim they have no idea that their home appliances continue to draw energy from the mains simply from being plugged in, with the plug switch left turned on. This is costing the nation's homes an extra £513,766,000 a year in energy costs –...

Don Lemon has tweeted that he's been fired by CNN after 17 years. In a statement posted to Twitter, he wrote: 'I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have thought someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. 'At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. 'It is clear that there are some larger issues at play. With that...

BuzzFeed News is no more, but its former editor, Ben Smith, spearheading the new Semafor media venture, decided to reflect on the moment he gave the green light to post the infamous Steele Dossier. The document was unverifiable and has now been dismissed as anything but legitimate. This tranche of papers is what set off the FBI’s counterintelligence probe into Donald Trump, the investigation that formed the core of the Russian collusion hoax that later evolved into the Mueller investigation. The media circus destroyed the last vestiges of credibility with many reporters in the legacy media. No bombshell development ever...

A Beach Boys fan released a version of the band’s abandoned album Smile, using artificial intelligence software to complete the tracks. You can hear the full album below. Creator Mike LeRoy fabricated a backstory for his work before detailing how he brought it to fruition. “In the summer of 2018 I traveled to Japan,” he wrote in the video description, claiming he found the album in a secondhand store. “I slid a pink record sleeve out of a neatly packed shelf of vinyl records. Looking down at my prize, I was presented with a Native American glancing at the bicycle...

Kind of vanity. Look at this disgusting YouTube piece that popped up in my suggested tonite. It’s from today. Bottom line, host, guests, and commenter on U2 all gleeful about white woman getting beat down for using the only forbidden word in all the world. These people are ALL DISGUSTING. But not shocking given they also let the riots go on endlessly for less reason. This is what we deal with, people. Disgusting immoral miscreants like this. And I don’t mean the black thug who beat her.

There's a well known expression regarding the use of computers: garbage in, garbage out, or GI-GO. It would be wise to keep this concept in mind when dealing with artificial intelligence (A.I.). Over the past several years, we have become fascinated with the possibilities of A.I. An article in Forbes from May of 2022 described five things to expect from A.I. in the next five years. The five are: Transformation of the scientific method. A.I. and machine learning (M.L.) will streamline and significantly accelerate medical research. Research and development by drug companies, as well as drug trials, will be accomplished...

At an American Mathematical Society meeting, high school students presented a proof of the Pythagorean theorem that used trigonometry—an approach that some once considered impossibleTwo high school students have proved the Pythagorean theorem in a way that one early 20th-century mathematician thought was impossible: using trigonometry. Calcea Johnson and Ne’Kiya Jackson, both at St. Mary’s Academy in New Orleans, announced their achievement last month at an American Mathematical Society meeting. “It’s an unparalleled feeling, honestly, because there’s just nothing like it, being able to do something that ... people don’t think that young people can do,” Johnson told WWL-TV, a...

Headquartered in SoMa, Opendoor is a so-called “iBuyer," or instant buyer, a data-driven real estate buyer that uses pricing algorithms to quickly buy and sell homes. Opendoor has steadily expanded its services metro by metro, and in early 2022, it started buying houses in the Bay Area. Other real estate tech firms like Zillow and Redfin have halted their own buying initiatives amid economic pressure and complaints about the controversial business method. Opendoor went public through a special purpose acquisition company in June 2020 and saw its valuation peak the following February. But the real estate market, at a frenzy...

Twitter appears to have removed its ban on using the former names of transgender people. Called “deadnaming” by transgender activists, it was banned in the pre-Musk era, when Twitter’s woke censorship regime was at its height. The former policy, which has now been removed, banned “targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.” It came amid a wider rollback of Twitter’s censorship policies, including the greater use of labeling vs. outright removal of “hateful” tweets. But it was the removal of the “deadnaming” policy that led to howls of outrage from the woke left. The president of the leftist LGBT advocacy...

(NEXSTAR) – A massive $725 million settlement involving Facebook’s parent company Meta was tentatively approved by a judge last month, paving the way for users of the social media platform to apply for a chunk of the payout. Meta has agreed to the payment to settle a lawsuit claiming Facebook allowed users’ personal data to be shared with third parties, the most famous being Cambridge Analytica, a consulting firm that supported Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. The firm harvested the data of as many as 87 million Facebook users, the Associated Press reported. Final approval of the settlement isn’t expected...
